Nightcrawler leads a mission to try to locate, and if found, rescue, the long-missing Charles Xavier. Based on information provided by Sabra, he, Colossus, Shadowcat and Douglock fly their craft, the Midnight Runner, to the highlands of Peru. There, they reach a Zero Tolerance installation covered by a dome of telekinetic energy. Leaving the Runner cloaked and hovering above the complex, the four heroes touch down in the jungle near the dome. They come across the bodies of some Prime Sentinels that have been eviscerated. Nightcrawler teleports into the complex, as Shadowcat phases herself, Colossus and Douglock through the TK field, then into the structure.
Keeping in radio contact as he searches, Nightcrawler informs his teammates he's found more Prime Sentinel bodies. Suddenly, he's surrounded by what appear to be the five original X-Men: Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast and Iceman. They fight until the faux Iceman pins Nightcrawler to the wall in a block of ice. The 'X-Men' then reveal themselves to be Prime Sentinels, just as the rest of Excalibur arrives to aid Nightcrawler. One Sentinel, who introduces herself as the Supervisor of the facility, that it was originally set up for research, but when Bastion took over Zero Tolerance, he made it a prison to incarcerate and experiment on mutants. One captive, however, a psionic powerhouse, has been fighting back, destroying Sentinels and keeping the TK dome over the complex. The Supervisor asks the mutants for their aid and protection.
The team is directed to a locked chamber in which he expects to find Xavier. As he reaches for the door controls, they are subjected to a painful psi-blast. Shadowcat phases her hand through the control, opening the chamber. Within, the team sees, not Xavier, but the Mimic, restrained and connected to numerous probes and cables, while his powers seem to rage, barely under control.
Meanwhile, back at the Muir Island Genetic Research Facility, Meggan, who has been watching the sea every day the previous week, hoping for Brian Braddock to come back from his hiatus, is overjoyed to see that he has finally returned.
