This is more like it.
So I wasn't exactly thrilled with the last Eternal Warrior series. Gilad himself is a rather stoic, angsty, tortured type that we've all seen before. He's okay but he's not exactly the most interesting guy in the world.
The awesome part however is the concept behind him. An immortal warrior who's seen combat through the centuries of human history - sign me up for that book.
Unfortunately, the past series got weird. We somehow went from historical book to some trippy weird sci-fi book that I had a hard time finding a reason to care about.
But this series - this is what I want to see. The first couple pages alone get my nerd juices gushing. I mean, fuck - the line alone about Gilad fighting along Alexander the Great? Where the fuck is that miniseries? I would be all over that.
For this book, we find ourselves following Gilad in the land of the Franks sent there by the Geomancer to help repel the Maygars (basically Hungarians). This places us sometime in the 9th or 10th century.
His mission is to protect a newborn child, born of a european woman with the father unknown (she was raped by a Hungarian). Although I personally do not know if they intend to be this to be a character based on historical character or not, its nevertheless intriguing to see what's going on.
The book is off to a good start and is more like what I want out of a book featuring this character.
I will say I'm not overly fond of the art. Its not bad, but its nothing special. Either way, I'm finally happy with the direction of the character now.
