Written by Mark Waid with art by Barry Kitson and James Pascoe, Empire is an American comic book series originally published by Image imprint Gorilla Comics, Empire was acquired by DC Comics. The two Gorilla issues were reprinted in Empire #0, and were followed by a six-issue limited series. The book carries a "Suggested for Mature Readers" warning. The series has also been collected in a 208-page trade paperback.
Empire is set in a dystopian future in which the Earth has been conquered by an armored supervillain named Golgoth. After a decade of stamping out pockets of resistance, Golgoth is now confronted with betrayal from within as well as an insurrection supported by an alien race known as the Qaron. Establishing a cabinet of Ministers,Golgoth ensures their loyalty through addiction to a booster drug called Eucharist, which is secretly harvested directly from the corpse of Golgoth's late nemesis, the heroic Endymion. The series is framed through the perspective of Delphi, Golgoth's daughter, as well as Gologth himself and the multiple perspectives of his Ministers. Intrigue and action abound throughout this series.
Empire was nominated for an Eisner Award in 2004 for "Best Limited Series."
