@god_spawnThaaaaaank you.90% of all women in comics dress like prostitutes. And why do people keep calling her a whore? She has been with 5 guys and is almost in her thirties if not there yet and cheated on Scott once while under the influence of the Phoenix Force. I've seen dozens of kids in high school go through that many relationships in a year, in nearing mid-adulthood is not that bad.
this, and if i recall correctly, she dresses this way to manipulate people's perception of her.

And so ends the thread, resoundingly.

@god_spawn said:Disagreed. A superhero costume is very dissimilar from what a prostitute would wear, Emma's "White Queen" outfit on the other hand is not.90% of all women in comics dress like prostitutes.
So then Selene, Elektra, Psylocke, etc -- a corset with thigh high boots and bikini bottoms are the uniform of prostitutes?
Also, who is anyone to say what a prostitute wears? Prostitutes range from your Trophy Wife who married for money (to me -- that's legalised prostitution) all the way to that 50 plus year old who dresses in a house-coat and slippers, taking in clients into her home throughout the day/night.
Most of the female characters are dressed provocatively, and to add to that, more and more of the male characters are being portrayed as such. How about we switch the word "womanizer" to "gigolo'? Gambit -- Nightwing and so on...
marvel said it best..... (sorry if the pic is blurry)
At the end of the day, the way she dresses is part of her character. Emma is one of the few female characters in comics who very consciously dresses and looks the way she does(She got the plastic surgery done, she puts on the clothes, she dyes her hair, she works out.) and justifies it... Now that's not to say that some artist don't have a field day with her "assets" ,but it's all justifiable based on her character.

because she was a prostitute
mind you, a high end prostitute but she is still a whore
as to why she still dresses as one
well
i dont know, force of habit?
why does Storm dresses in a costume that is basically a one piece?
why does starfire uses a top that is physically impossible to wear?
There seem to be some misconceptions regarding the... arts of prostitution.
The Ladies Cardinal were not prostitutes; their job title is dominatrix. A dominatrix (female) or dom (male) is a sadist who tortures (physically or otherwise) for enjoyment. A submissive is (usually) a masochist who is tormented for fun. Neither payment nor sex is required. Sometimes the individuals involved elect to engage in a sexual relationship, but not usually. Generally, the sub gifts one's dom/ina with a gratutity or tribute for the pleasure of their company (which is seen as an investment toward the physical space, toys, costuming, etc.). A prostitute, however, accepts recompense for services rendered, usually (but not necessarily) involving a monetary transaction and dresses according to what s/he determines is in the best interest for that profession.
Hope that clears it up.

"...You’ll note I’ve also left off characters like Emma Frost/The White Queen, who you can actually make an argument for dressing provocatively. And that’s where we get to the why. Why do these costumes make sense? When a male character has a crazy revealing costume it’s for a reason. Namor sometimes wears a Speedo. But that makes a certain amount of sense both from a job perspective (he lives in the ocean and is nearly invulnerable) and from a character perspective (he’s a known lothario and braggart who seems like he’d enjoy showing off his body). Similarly, Emma Frost’s insanely sexy costumes (she frequently wears what is essentially lingerie to fight crime) make a certain amount of character sense (she’s an extrovert that constantly trades on her looks and makes no attempt to hide this) and now that she can also turn into a diamond, she can be nearly indestructible when she desires and she likes to show off her pretty diamond skin, so the more skin available, the better as far as she’s concerned. And so like Namor, Emma makes some sense..."
I like this, it kinda coincides with my reasoning as to why certain costume designs (or the lack of costume in regard to some notable females in comics); they're durable and really don't need extra protection, so why not flaunt?
Wonder Woman comes to mind here.
Why does Hulk dress like a prostitute?
if you think that question is ridiculous then it's time to shut this thread down.

just because she hot???she gets to show off her body??? everyone is beauiful in there own way and they dont have to show off but hey if she wants to whatever
big bertha was on to something:
comicbook writers are preverts
I'll never understand why people allow themselves to get worked into a lather over what a fictional comic book character is wearing, or the lack thereof. It makes no sense to me. First of all it's a drawn picture, it doesn't have to be practical. Secondly, why are costumes that were acceptable back when children actually read comics, suddenly too provocative for the primarily adult audience of today? Has there been a rapid influx of Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Quakers or some other practitioners of conservative religious doctrine interspersed among the general comic buying public? I didn't know we were in church.
I think Emma Frost is made to look like a prostitute, the only popular X-lady that looks like a slut, she dresses like one. A prostitute is someone who sleeps with someone for money. Emma doesn't do that, she is not a prostitute. I can understand why people see her that way. She slept with Scott, Namor, Sebastian Shaw and Iron Man. The way she ended being Cyclops woman, tells you that. Then there is how she use to act in the hellfire club, she used to strip for men, for money.
The way marvel promotes her in comics, I can understand why fans feel that way about her.
Is she a prostitute ? No. Is she a slut ? well that's a matter of opinion.
Super Heroes and Heroins dress for the beach because that is their favorite place to be. You never know when you will get the time so wear a swimsuit always just in case.
