Can we seriously address just how adorable this right here is?

Look at that! Just... Stop it! Stop being cute, damn you, Frost!

But seriously, this was the moment I stopped hating Emma Frost. For once, she isn't that stuck up, looks-down-her-nose-at-you, prances around half-naked, haughty bitch I knew from her earlier days in X-Men comics as the White Queen. For once, she was a likeable character, she was someone I just... Just couldn't for the life of me hate at all. She's just so... So human in this issue (Uncanny X-Men #15.IHM), and especially this scene here.

For a moment, the ice-queen I knew before just disappeared, to be replaced by someone who actually struck me as a good, well-written character, who has very human qualities to them that readers can identify with. Hell, with qualities that I can identify with even. I toss around in my sleep, and come morning, my bed looks like Emma's, and there's a strong possibility of drool on my pillow. That Emma has a similar sleep cycle to that of a normal person, and doesn't sleep some sex object who's REM cycle could be aired as softcore porn, speaks very highly of the writer behind the series (in this case, Bendis) and their understanding of how to connect with their audience, and to give characters more depth and personality to them that makes them more endearing to us as readers.

This moment quite literally changed my headcanon of Emma for the better, and now whenever I see this scene, I get the urge to either snuggle with her all cutely, or slowly close the door and good make her pancakes and coffee for when she wakes up. This is my new view of Emma Frost, a better, more human image that is both strong and powerful, yet suprisingly sweet and adorable when you get past her barriers.

Does anyone else have any cute Emma moments to recommend/suggest as well?

(On a side artistic note, did you notice how Kris Anka took the time to draw in that little detail of how her tummy folds/curves in the position she's in while she sleeps like this? Really says a lot about his knowledge of human anatomy when you stop and think about it.)

It was a panel that was supposed to be funny....not some major development. I find it ironic that you claim she was finally human in that issue, yet 2 pages later starts bragging about how she is Emma Frost and has money and then they all go shopping and she ends up in the most extravagant attire of the bunch.

And I don't get that the issue is what made her finally a well written character. Emma's whole premise is supposed to be a smart, confident with a holier-than-thou air about her yet cares deeply for her students. Bendis actually portrayed the qualities in said issue that you seem to not like.

If you want an actual character defining moment, go read New X-Men where she is sitting at her desk crying because her students were killed, so she goes diamond to numb herself from the pain.

@god_spawn: You make an excellent point, GS. I've just never really enjoyed Emma in the past, nor have I really followed much of the X-Men's issues that focus on her and her more human qualities outside of that personal she puts on for people. And yeah, she did go back to that holier-than-thou attitude a couple pages/panels later and it did kinda peev me a bit when she did, but the above image of her seems to have tempered my original dislike for that part of her character. As you said, it's not a major character defining moment, like the one you've added (thanks for that, by the way), but to me, it's a nice moment that made me forget how much I utterly despised her character in the past, and warmed up to her a bit. I'm not saying I think she's a saint and my go-to superheroine from now on (far from it, actually), but I don't hold as much dislike for her as I used to any more. Nor am I saying that Bendis' depiction of her is so much greater than anyone elses, especially the New X-Men writer (as that was one of my favorite series, though not for Emma persay), it's just that this is a moment I enjoyed that made me forget about Emma's "face," and remember those better qualities about her. Her "heart," if you will.

And again, I haven't really seen many issues with Emma in them, either because I didn't pick them up because I wasn't into the book or title at the time, I was more focused on other characters who I was more invested in, or I simply ignored the fact that she was in there altogether out of dislike for her, having not been able to see that part of her until recently (Again, not a landmark moment by any stretch of the imagination, but a nice one nonetheless). Depending on the writer, she tends to flip-flop between characterizations, and I guess I probably had the bad luck to pick up issues with her being portrayed with her ice-queen/dominatrix/morally ambiguous traits being written as her primary character traits. I like the Emma that cares about her students and about other people, and I really wish that there were more portrayals of her as this person, and that the writers who want to use her as her old White Queen persona would stop and pick up the issues where she's got more to her than that, and write her like that. But, as fickle as people are with certain characters and writing, she's bound to fall back into that persona soon enough, with the wrong writer behind the pen. I don't know who, but they will do it.
