    Origin

    Pessimistic Future...
    Pessimistic Future...

A mutant girl who lived on Genosha, Ellie Phimister was a student in Emma Frost's telepathy class. Gothic in appearance with pure white skin and long black hair, Phimister appeared to often complain about the visions that her powers gave her. Due to the morbid and whiney nature of her powers, Phimister was disliked by her teacher. While Phimister moaned about how she had experienced the same nightmare 50 times the previous night, Frost considered the girl with disdain & contempt. Phimister went on to say that she had the same nightmare during class, but what no one in her class realised was that she had been predicting their immediate future.

    Creation

Ellie Phimister (or Negasonic Teenage Warhead) was created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely and first appeared in New X-Men issue 115 (2001). She was a gothic-looking girl with powers to forsee terrible events, such as the death of herself and almost all the mutants on the island of Genosha.

After years of absence, N.T.W. returned with a completly different look and attitude in the pages of Deadpool & the Mercs for Money Vol.2 issue 1. The character was likely revived and reinvented due to her succes in the Deadpool movie from 2016 and to more ressemble her movie-counterpart.

Genosha came under attack from the Sentinels that were controlled by Cassandra Nova. The attack was instant. The island nation suffered the effect of a nuclear bomb. Emma Frost managed to survive due to the emergence of her secondary mutation. Much later, Frost was found under the rubble of the destroyed building. She emerged carrying Ellie Phimister's body, demanding that someone fix the 'broken' lifeless corpse.

However, Ellie Phimister had a more lingering impression in the mind of Emma Frost. It transpired that her secondary mutation had been offered to her by Cassandra Nova moments before the destruction of Genosha. Although Frost had no recollection of the agreement, she had accepted Nova's offer in exchange for storing her personality in the back of her mind.

Later, the X-Men came under attack from a new Hellfire Club. It's members included Sebastian Shaw in his role as Black King , Cassandra Nova as the White King, the White Queen known as Perfection (an image of Emma Frost as she appeared during her life with the Hellfire Club), and Ellie Phimister was the new Black Queen. More confident than she had been in life, Phimister had chosen the codename 'Teenage Negasonic Warhead'. As a member of the new Hellfire Club she attacked members of the X-Men, notably Kitty Pryde. Negasonic Teenage Warhead later dreamt that Kitty Pryde was phasing down through the school's lower levels. Just as with her dreams on Genosha, it transpired that Ellie was predicting what was actually happening.

Yet, like the rest of the Hellfire Club, Ellie Phimister wasn't actually in the mansion. She had been a psychic creation from Emma Frost's mind; the part of her mind that was controlled by the psychic remnants of Cassandra Nova. This was why Cyclops was unable to harm any of the Hellfire Club members, including Ellie, when he opened fire with a pistol.

    Resurrection
    Resurrection

The real Ellie Phimister remained dead; buried on Genosha along with millions of other mutants who had perished during the Sentinel attack. However, her body was later invaded and infected by a techno-organic transmode virus, which brought her back to life.

Eli Bard had previously extracted a sample of the transmode virus from a dormant larval form of Magus. He combined it with his vampiric black magic, and used it to resurrect dead mutants to serve Selene. Together, they planned to resurrect the millions of mutants on Genosha, in order to sacrifice their souls and transform Selene into a Goddess. Ellie Phimister was one of the first mutants to be raised from the dead, upon their arrival on Genosha.

After she pulled herself up form the ground, Ellie Phimister was confronted by Selene who asked for her name. However, Phimister's mutant powers allowed her to immediately see the future. Phimister pessimistically predicted that there was no need to introduce herself to the former Black Queen, as she would soon be dead again. This prediction pleased Selene, who kept Phimister near her at all times.

As Phimister had predicted, the millions of resurrected lives were killed again. They were sacrificed en masse, and Eliie Phimister died once more.

After the events of Necrosha, it was revealed that she seemingly survived the second purge. After the Secret Wars she was seen again and living in Albuquerque, where she was captured by Deadpool. Wade and his mercenary team were dispatched by Umbral Dynamics to allocate her to their facilities due to the danger she represented; only for the teen mutant to prove more difficult at aprehension that what was lead to be believed. Showing a cunning display of foresight and physical capacity to single-handedly deal with Deadpool's squad, until she chose to go along with him willingly after having another vision involving him looking out for her. After spending a few weeks getting poked and prodded by Umbral having the unique energies she was pushing out siphoined, Deadpool made a break into the facility she was held in to rescue her after reciving a tip from Aaron about it's dangerous handlings. Only for the two of them to get into a fight agaisnt Titania and Scorpia, whom Warhead did surprsingly well agaisnt in hand to hand combat. Until the mastermind behind the whole evil corprate venture revealed her trump card; a revived Presence to combat them both, Ellie was recaptured but soon freed again when Deadpool and a newly assembled Mercs For Money mobalized to shut Lefay and her operation down. While still disoriented from her energy draining, Warhead was able to defuse the situation by draining back the energy used to revive Umbral's secret weapon sending Sergei back to the grave again. Now sporting a new look and with nowhere else to go Negasonic Teenage Warhead opts to stay with the Newly assembled team.

    Powers and abilities

As a mutant Ellie Phimister had psychic abilities that enabled her to predict the future. Specifically, she has displayed the following abilities:

    Accuracy

It is widely believed that Phimister was a highly accurate precog, especially since she had correctly predicted the destruction of Genosha and later recognised that Selene would sacrifice her immediately after she was resurrected . However, looking at her pre-death appearance it seems more likely that she was often ignored. Whether this was because she was known to be inaccurate with her dreams, or because she was cursed like Cassandra from Greek mythology, in unclear.

However, the Ellie Phimister that predicted Kitty Pryde's actions was a construction of Emma Frost's powers. The post-death incarnation of Phimister didn't actually predict Pryde's actions, but was reporting on them as they happened. Therefore it is more likely that the accuracy of her powers on that occasions was actually derived from Emma Frost's own telepathic powers reaching into Pryde's mind to see what she was doing.

Also, during her first appearance, Phimister was in a rowdy classroom where she was mocked by her fellow students and ignored by her teacher. Emma Frost's reaction to Phimister's prediction wasn't of concern. The fact that Frost was bored instead of alarmed, seems to indicate that Phimister had many pessimistic predictions that hadn't come true; much in the same way that the boy who cried 'Wolf' was not believed when he actually did see a wolf.

    Reality Warping

Her powers were expanded beyond her original kin whence upon her second resurrection. She could now rewrite the very fabric of universal totality with but a gesture on her part. Able to materialize and reshape matter and/or energy, change the elements at the drop of a dime, alternate vast nuclear powers of beings like the Radient at will, and even travel through time to alter history if she so chooses.

    Repetition

During Emma Frost's class, Phimister seemed concerned by the sheer amount of times she had experienced her nightmare of Genosha's destruction. It certainly seems that she kept some kind of dream journal or record of her dreams since she recalled that she had experienced it 50 times during the night. It would therefore be reasonable to assume that she regularly kept a record of what premonitions she had during her sleep, in order to study her own mutant powers during the day.

    Telepathy

The precognition appears to have been Phimister's primary mutant power. It was a psionic power, which presumably was the reason for her attendance in Emma Frost's telepathy class. Since her appearance was cut short, it is therefore unclear how strong Phimister's telepathic abilities were.

Emma Frost did appear to have an emotional connection to Ellie Phimister. She was the last student Frost spoke to on Genosha, and it was her lifeless body that Frost held on to while trapped beneath the rubble. There was also the telepathic projection that Frost later created. However, the telepathic constructed version of th Negasonic Teenage Warhead was confident and vindictive, which is at odds with the depressed and pessimistic girl who attended Frost's telepathic class. It therefore seems that she did not bond telepathically with Emma Frost, but the Hellfire Club incarnation of Ellie Phimister was purely constructed from Frost's own imagination and trauma connected to her. After all, Sebastian Shaw was still alive and conscious during the Hellfire Club's so-called attack on the X-Men. Therefore it seems likely that he was an imaginary figure, and as such it seems that Ellie was too.

    Precognition

From what Phimister stated about her dreams, it is clear that she had a mutant power of precognition. It seems that she was able to predict the future through 'dreams'. Although, it did not appear that she was required to be in an unconscious state to experience these dreams.

It is possible that Phimister was able to predict different branches of reality, much like Destiny had done. However, unlike Destiny, Phimister did not have the experience or maturity to control her dreams or differentiate what was going to happen from what might possibly happen.

    Telekinesis

For a short while, Negasonic showed potent mind over matter capabilities that temporarily enabled her to lift a fullgrown adult male off the ground as well as simple objects

    Enhanced Constitution

Through an as of yet unknown means Ellie seems to have grown impressively more dynamistic in the physical department. Having gone toe to toe with an army of infamous, well trained mercs and defeating them all singlehanded to battling with powerhouses like Titania & Scorpia in single combat while surviving.

    • Superhuman Strength: Strong enough to flail around an adult human female wearing powered armor.
    • Superhuman Speed: Fast enough to dart out of vision fields with ease.
    • Superhuman Durability: Was knocked clean through a wall but showed little to no sighns fo physical injury.

    Miscellaneous

    • Phimister's chosen codename 'Negasonic Teenage Warhead' is taken from the 1995 single by Monster Magnet.
    • When Kitty Pryde heard her codename she replied 'Wow, we really have run out of names'. due to the ludicrous length and meaning of the name.
