Hyacinthe de Cavallere, the son of Arakou Cavallere, a wealthy knight, is send to live with his uncle in Antipolis, the country's capitol in order to learn the modern ways of governing.Upon his arrival, uncle Florotte puts him into the services of his assistant Jean-Michel.
The young Hyacinthe soon learns of the corruption and blackmail that rules modern politics, and the injustice it causes. Unable to help the needy in legal ways, but driven by his knightly honor, Hyacinthe takes justice into his own hands under the guise of the Night Shirt.
