    Review - Doctor Who #3

The Doctor has been arrested, there's something strange about Sir Charles Warren, and Inspector Abberline isn't fooled by the psychic paper.  Just how deep The Doctor, Amy, and Rory have gotten into the case of Jack the Ripper is only revealed when The Ripper chooses one of the time travelers as his next victim and time continuity is altered.

At first I was wary of a Jack the Ripper story arc.  Maybe it was seeing a few other Ripper-related stories in comics come about lately, maybe because it seemed like such a change from the light-heartedness of #1.  But I gave it a try anyway and was gratified by Tony Lee's introduction into the arc last issue.  This issue is even better, bringing the Ripper legend truly into Doctor Who territory, complete with exceptional humans, aliens both good and bad, and of course fantastic assistance from the companions.  Lee's writing moves the story along without dragging, and he continues to capture Matt Smith's Doctor, as well as Amy and Rory, with an uncanny accuracy.  This accuracy, which allows the actions of the companions to be so believable, is also what makes the story become so intriguing.

Tim Hamilton's art and Phil Elliot's colouring is wonderful, although not outstanding.  I do wish a different colour palatte had been chosen, as the art reflects the typical dreary dark Victorian London that is often portrayed, instead of the bustling-but-dirty city it was.  Whilst I understand wanting to set the tone for the story, it nearly seems as if the events are unfolding in a vacuum rather than in an actual place.

Overall this is a solid issue and I'm looking forward to the next one as the conclusion of the arc.  I am especially interested to see how the character revelations discovered in this issue play out.  This issue is worth a read and will leave you curious, though probably not begging, for more.
