That's a big dissapointment. I was really enjoying the new look and feel of the book.
Dick Grayson
Character » Dick Grayson appears in 9486 issues.
As the first Robin, Dick Grayson was the most famous sidekick in comic book history. As he ventured forth on his own, he formed the Teen Titans and became their leader. When the boy became a man, he became the independent hero known as Nightwing.
Brett Booth's last issue will be #21.
Eh, I don't hate his art, but I don't love it either, so the news is neutral to me. Interested to see how he draws some of the JLA though.

just find a good steady artist.Art inconsistency is annoying as hell.
Nightwing had 5 artists in 20 issues!
Some of his style complemented the book, he came on strong with Dick's parkour and acrobatics. His redesign of Nightwing was well recieved, I just can't say that he was an artist I'd regularly want on the title. He actually made me a fan and I couldn't complain if he were given a spot as fill-in artist. Nightwing's series is growing up and needs premium talent like a Tony Daniel, or Mmmmmm! Kenneth Rocafort. I'd kiss that man and walk his cats everyday if he took on art duties.
Artists come and go I suppose. He wasn't awful by any means and I certainly enjoyed some of his work, but not enough to feel sad about him leaving. I only hope that the next artist will be a good one.
@squalleon: I agree
I like my titles to have a certain steadiness to them artistically. Constant artistic changes just muddle the feel of the book and the tone it so recently tried to carve out for itself. I'd rather a constant decent artistic endeavor remain than have fluctuations between good and bad artistic takes on the character. Uncanny Avengers is an example of a book I dropped because of its sporadic nature. It never found its artistic identity. And since I never knew what to expect (sometimes good, sometimes achingly underachieving,) I decided it was one I no longer could get excited for.
This is a shame as I was enjoying the world Booth created in Chicago. I was just about to add this to my pull. Anyone know/have illustrations of the new artist?
I hate that the art has been so inconsistent on this book, but I'm not worried for 22+.
I agree, but while it's been inconsistent, I also feel like every artist who's worked on this book has brought something special and done a great job of capturing it and that can be tricky with such an agile and acrobatic character, sometimes things come across as really static and I've never felt that way when it comes to this book.
I am about six issues behind, though :(
good god! Is it really that difficult for DC to understand that readers like stability? It's really hard to enjoy a book when the writers and artists are constantly changing
this is even worse since the past few issues of Nightwing have been the best of the series and since Higgins has been the writer the whole time then I'm going to give a lot of that credit to Booth's amazing artwork

lol you should've seen my reaction when I was reading Deathstroke's series, and didn't even realize that DC changed the writer from Kyle Higgins to Rob Liefeld. For a second, I thought Higgins bumped his head really hard based on the terrible writing quality, until I flipped back to the cover and saw Liefeld's name. Many tears were shed that night...
Has anyone figured out who the replacement/new series artist is? I'm getting bothered wondering this.
Marcus To would be a good choice. His art was beautiful on Red Robin and he was very consistent. He drew Nightwing in an issue of Batwing and he turned out pretty good. I didn't like the fill in guys for Nightwing like Juan Jose Ryp so hopefully they go with someone new. This book has some of the most consistently good writing in the New 52 so, it should get a deservingly good artist.
I was really sad to see this news. I don't think Booth will find a book he fits this much ever again. Unless he works on a spider-man book at some point in his life. Hopefully trevor mccarthy will take his place, he would be perfect in my opinion.
Also, is it the general opinion on these boards that Higgins has been good on the series? That would be... refreshing.

I can't speak for the boards, but I'm enjoying his writing on this book. The Chicago arc is much stronger than the earlier run because he's not being forced into a crossover every other issue. As much as I love the Bat-family, I think Dick is stronger when he's separated from them.

Higgins' run is regarded pretty highly on CV. I haven't really heard anybody say anything unfavorable about it and the majority opinion (again, from what I've seen) is that it's well done.
Personally speaking, I think he's perfect for the character and it's the only DCnU book that I've stuck with for its entirety in one form or another (currently back to tradewaiting most of my comics, but I started pulling this before they even released the first issue after reading one of his interviews).
He gets the essence of the character in a way that most writers never have.
That is really good to hear. I think he's been strong by and large on the series. Only real low point for me was the Paragon arc, which I found to be mediocre, but the first nine issues were pretty fantastic, and the DotF stuff, while rough, was pretty well done.
I just hope they find someone who fits the series like booth did. Barrows was good, but he didn't fit the way Booth did. Sorry that McCarthy is taken. I feel like my crush is already going to prom with someone else. Bummer, he'd be great.
I kind of agree with the statement about Booth not realizing his style fits with Nightwing. You think an artist would realize this when he sees it.
Man,i hope all this time is them taking their time trying to find an artist that fits the book,and can actually stay on the series.
@nightwingdg: Yes :) And I'm not allowed to tell. They'll make an announcement soon (since #21 is out this month).

We have to wait? Aww man,why all the secrecy? It's no like it's gonna be someone as high profile as Jim Lee or something.....Or is it? This is torture *sadface*.
@superjedi17: Ha, nothing like that. It's not even "secrecy" as much as respect for their announcement schedule.
Not even in jest, bro.
@richardjohngrayson: pfffffthaha !!
