WOW I thought the margin was a bit closer. Hopefully the upcoming movies bring in some revenue for DC, otherwise Marvel is going to have a stranglehold on the market for a few years to come.

Marvel getting Star Wars kind of broke the competition. I don't think you will ever see DC come near Marvel again because of it.

@lone_wolf_and_cub: and Marvel is lucky they have writers willing to churn out event after event so that they can surge their prices and flood the market with a bunch of tie ins. You do know that's what's driving the surge, right? People are suckers for universe-spanning events even when they're horrible, which Marvel's events usually are. Remember how huge the surge in DC's sales were after the New 52 was rolled out? They were routinely outperforming Marvel because they did a marketing blitz. Marvel's now reaping the benefits of that same strategy. Once Secret Wars ends, Marvel's market/unit/dollar share is at least 90% certain to take a huge plunge.

I'll be interested to see the drop-off in the Marvel tie-in limited series over the next few months. I picked up a few and was widely unimpressed.

@lone_wolf_and_cub: Not at all. Just realistic as to the causes behind the distribution of sales and not blinded by blatant bias toward one publisher over the other. You know, the things that you aren't.

Isn't this about the same every time this is posted? Marvel is # 1, DC is # 2 and so fourth???

i see nothing new here really and nothing that's not shocking. this is how it usually is the big two are always on top with sales.

@zeeguy91: Coming from someone who is so clearly biased to DC I'll take your view with a grain of salt brah.

@lone_wolf_and_cub: except I'm not. I read BOTH Marvel and DC. Hell, I'm reading Secret Wars and Secret Wars tie ins.

Just because I read Marvel doesn't mean I can't point out the crap that Marvel does/gets away with.

DC comics is getting it up the butt month in and month out.

Marvel is so dominate right now.

@the_man_with_questions: you're talking about dollar share.

in hindsight the figure you should be looking at is the unit share. and they are still moving more units than Image and DC combined, which like someone previously said is alarming and unhealthy when someone in an industry is THAT dominate. (and its quite obvious no one cares about Marvel's pricing although i agree with your sentiment... but the fact of the matter is they're moving more units regardless of price point)

I was a DC fan until new 52, now I see that all the readers they got with the trash 52 have gone or the former loyal fans like me have left, however this poor got the same results than before

BTW Marvel is boring for me

@zeeguy91: I read Marvel, DC, Image, Vertigo, IDW, Dark Horse etc. I'm hardly biased. It goes both ways as well, let's not act DC puts out nothing but great books. Marvel has been on top for awhile now. They didn't need events to be on top. More people prefer Marvel over DC. That's a fact that the numbers prove. You whining doesn't prove anything just that you are bitter.

@j_hickmanisgod: Not really. As lagozzino said.. This only takes into account sells from Diamond. This doesn't count other comic book distributors, people who have subscriptions to things like Marvel Unlimited, or sells from outside the country.

If DC got Star Trek things could even more intense.

It could. Or at least it would have before the reboot. At any rate marvel has discovered that fan anger, sloppy writing and editing and eternal events can equal sales so I believe that is all that anyone is ever going to get from them from now on. I don't think the writers have any other ideas but to create character distorting events of one type or another and even if they did I'm not sure that the editors will accept them. I think the only character so far immune to this is the new Ms. Marvel and that's only because they have to establish a fan base before they can anger it by trashing the character. Once she's established they'll throw her to Bendis or someone like him and she'll end up doing something horrible that'll require a redemption mini. All this leads to sales so they'll keep doing it. On a business level I can't fault them for it, on a personal and artistic level I despise their cynical selling out.

@lone_wolf_and_cub: Which is why as late as December of last year, they were neck and neck for market/dollar share with a 32/31 percent split? Do you know what's changed since December 2014? Marvel started selling Star Wars comics in January, which are basically 80% responsible for this increase in the gap.

So, please, lets not pretend the Marvel Universe is a plethora of literary genius. Secret Wars is good, but the tie-ins have been decent at best.

Happy for Valiant. Also I'm not surprised about Marvel. Secret Wars, Star Wars, and the Spider related titles are all a huge success. DC has Batman and whatever book he's in.

No surprises there. Star Wars has really helped to push Marvel forward. I don't think Marvel's books are any better than DC, but they do definitely have a better marketing team.

Does anyone know if these sales are just North America? Or every country that Diamond ships to?

Yes. Before the reboot Star Trek had a couple of hundred years of timelines to work with, now they only have one. At least as far as the movies go. Star Wars has kept it's universe relatively intact.

They'll ignore it. Marriages in comics are too hard for modern writers.

Despite Marvel has cancelled several series, it's still dominating.
