Dial H #8
Alberto Ponticelli does an amazing job penciling this issue. The sketchiness that he adds to the pages drastically changes the tone into grittiness and it seems to work by the end of the issue. The details that he adds to the panels gives you something to look at. The action also looks very fluid and vibrant. The story picks up from last issue and takes the series back to what made it so enjoyable. We see the dial-wielding duo arrive in Canada to search for another dial. This leads into another wielder and how that is resolved opens up new questions and stories for the future. We also learn more info on this new characters, Centipede. The origin of this characters is revealed in the midst of this story and it feels natural. China Mieville nails the dialog for all the characters and makes them enjoyable but all so different. Humor is also filled in this book, but with the plot and the art, it doesn't take over the dark and gritty feeling this series has had. The last few pages really changes the way you look at a character and leaves you wanting to see what happens next issue.
THE BAD:
Alberto Ponticelli's art took a while to warm up to. At the beginning of the issue, it really didn't go with what we have seem from other artist from issue #1, but it did grow on me.
THE VERDICT: 4.5/5 (Amazing)
Dial H is constantly surprising me with the amount of humor, action, plot and character moments it has been throwing at us. It all feels very well done and people should really considered picking up an issue of this series. If you don't have a type of power that you like to see in comics, this is for you. If you want a series that is comical but also very dramatic, this is also for you. I tried this series to get something new and I am very glad that I did. I highly recommend this issue and series to everyone.
