That was different.
I get it now, the point of this story is nostalgia. I can dig that, I love nostalgia. Problem is, it isn't aimed for me. It's for everyone who kept up with Bat's 70 year history. I caught the Adam West reference earlier, and the montage of some of the most famous stories was easy, but everything else went over my head.
The woman turns out to be one of the most important characters in Batman's history (that's all I'll say), and Bats realizes he's having a near death experience and all of this is in his mind. Yeah, yeah.
It was ok. The story would probably affect me more if two criteria were met:
- If I actually knew everything about Batman's 70 years. (Not gonna happen.)
- If death in mainstream comic books wasn't a joke. Besides, Batman isn't even dead.
