Creepy
There's really no way to give this a solid review without spoilers so consider yourself warned.
Paul Dini has a great grasp of the noir genre and he's always looked at as one of the people who has molded the Batman universe. The Detective Comics series is a perfect arena for Dini to show what his mind is capable of.
In #833, Trust, employees of the magician Ivar Loxias are having terrible accidents and the latest illusion trick of an assistant being cremated has fatal consequences. While investigating, Batman calls upon Zatanna who used to work closely with Loxias. The sexual tension between Batman and Zatanna is not 100% gone but it's mostly been replaced with disappointment since her betrayal during Infinite Crisis. In any case, Batman trusts her enough to help with this investigation.
Loxias sets up a fine trap in which he shoots Zatanna in the throat so that she cannot utter any incantations; he has Batman incapacitated but not before revealing that he is really The Joker.
It's chilling just like every issue I've read of this cover title. The Joker always brings that creep factor up a notch too.
