The story of Dieter Ganz and his clumsy career as a Burglar.

The issue presumably starts with Batman's thoughts, acquainting us with the story of Dieter Ganz, AKA Al Gabone (a nickname given to him by the cops in Gotham City). His first crime started and ended quickly at a liquor store in Eastlyn, where the paper bag he used as a mask interfered with his vision causing him to lose his footing. The cops arrived in time to save his life from getting beaten to death by the store clerk. This being his first felony, it placed him inside of Blackgate for 5 years. Good behavior got him out in 3 years.

On his second day out, Dieter tried to hold up a gas station, but the spray paint he used for his his resulted in intoxication. This time, he went back to Blackgate for 10 years. He was out in 5 years again, because of his good behavior. After he got out, he was back in the game. Dieter had a successful felony, but the note he gave to the cashier had his address on the other side. The cops were already waiting for him on his way home. He received 10 years at Blackgate, no parole.

Dieter finally gets out and is out looking for a job. His friend Nate hooks him up with Nash Cameron AKA The Toolbox, who's looking for a driver. Ganz agrees as long as it's nothing illegal. The three drive to a jewelry place where Nate and Nash bust in to rob the place. Ganz (unaware of what is really going on) is stuck in the middle and is coaxed into driving.

The Gotham Police Department gets on the chase and so does Batman and Robin who were aware of Nash's activities in Gotham City. Ganz tries to reason with Nate and Nash, but in doing so, he angers Nash even more leading to shooting back at the GPD, causing a collision between two patrol cars.

The three end up in the sewage system trying to escape. Batman and Robin (who switched their radar on in the Bat mobile) keep on the pursuit. They finally reach an Alley by Mundy Laundry Co., where Batman is waiting for them. They decide to keep on going by foot, entering a building in the docks. Nate and Nash are caught, but Dieter runs away. Batman states that the 'driver' will turn up in due time, since they always come back to that line of work.

The issues end's with Batman's thoughts about Al Gabone. Some time passes and Dieter opens up and electronics shop, keeping the promise he kept to himself. Starting a new live, away from trouble and from double parking.
