Avatars of Vengeance
I finally got my hands on a comic with Man-Bat in it. I was pretty excited when I was able to get a decent copy of this one. Man-Bat has become a workaholic and in doing so, has forgotten to take the medicine that keeps him from changing into the Man-Bat.
There are some things I really liked about this issue. There's a lot of personal stuff going on here. This issue is not so much about what is happening between Man-Bat and Batman, but more what is happening to the people during this time and how they are dealing with the issues they are facing.
Let's start with Man-Bat, as soon as he realizes that he's forgotten to take him medication, he feels cheated. He's been working so hard for his family. I can sense some remorse for what he's done and how it has affected them. Interesting theme, that I wish was pursued farther.
We've got James Gordon that's dealing with the Savage Skull mess. He's under a lot of stress and his health is showing it.
The relationship between Jason Todd and Bruce Wayne is developing as well. Bruce is finally starting to make him a priority, and in fact he's skipping a date with Vicki to take Jason to the movies. Jason starts to see him in a new light as well.
Then of course, there's the business with Man-Bat. When I say business, I mean him trying to track down Batman and kill him.
I enjoyed this one a lot. I'm bummed that it is concluded in the Batman 361. I wish it would stay withing Detective comics. But alas...
If you can get a copy of this one, it's a great read... especially the dynamic that is developing between Jason and Bruce.
