Confrontation
Batman is tracking Croc... he's convinced that Croc shot squid and he's tracked him back to his lair, but with no luck in capturing him. Batman is the ultimate detective, isn't he. I truly like that aspect about him. Trying to figure out his opponent and get the upper hand. Why would Croc burn down his "house".
Now, on the other hand, when it comes to women, he just can't seem to figure things out. He's out on a date with Vicki Vale and is making a mess of it. I've never been a huge fan of Bruce's involvement with the fairer sex, so having this diversion in here didn't do a lot for me. I did think it was interesting that he expressed his feelings for Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) to Vicki. He's just too honest sometimes, isn't he?
Jason Todd is becoming more involved in all the stories. I thought it interesting how Robin is at the Todd's place asking for help to capture Croc. Of course a prelude to the eventual transition to being Bruce Wayne's next ward. I often wonder what Dick is thinking as he's interacting with the Todd's. Is he wondering what could have been for him in the circus world? It's a little unnerving how similar those two are... Dick and Jason. Lives in parallel??
One of the best things for me in this issue is Batman, even in the state of frustration with Vicki Vale, he's thinking about his interaction with Croc and realized that he was being watched at the time and heads back to the scene of the crime. The battle with Croc is not disappointing to me either. A villain of his significance deserves to get a few shots in on the hero.
I really enjoyed this issue and glad I picked up a copy of it. I gave it a 4.5 rating. Now, if I can find copies of Batman where these story lines continue and fill in the blanks...
