Introducing Robin, The Boy Wonder Review!
It's hard to review this because of how nostalgic it is and how that can let you call this issue perfection along with the trouble of believing things here that nobody would care about in the 40s. Introducing Robin, The Boy Wonder is by Bill Finger (writer) and artists Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson.
It tells how Tony Zucco, a fat mobster based off Edward G. Robinson's Rico Bandello (well mainly the "see" part) kills off Dick Grayson's parents for not paying protection money. Bruce Wayne and Dick both see this when Zucco has their wires hit with acid causing Dick's parents to fall to death (they performed without a net).
So Batman takes in Dick and trains him to become Robin! They then decide to ruin Zucco's operation eventually forcing him into a confrontation on a construction set where they manage to defeat the crook.
Like I said the time and the nostalgia surrounding this story makes it hard to properly judge it but even without that this story is pretty good. The mob element is interesting and great for big crime-movie fans (like me). Also Zucco as a character is fun because of his ugly appearance and fast talking.
So writing-wise it's pretty good except for the fact Batman is letting say a 9-year old or a 12-year old at most fight crime is kinda....questionable. Especially when Dick is nearly killed by criminals. Also Batman just kinda takes Dick in. Like nobody at the circus notices or cares and it again is pretty odd. But it's still not horrible. Also the art by Kane and Robinson is very good especially with some inking.
So if your a Robin fan this is a must read and a pretty good story in general. It gets a 4 out of 5.
