Stark and Realistic...
I've never read any of the Demo series before, but the cover of this issue caught my attention immediately. There may be super powers here, but it's much more Love and Rockets than Superman. The story is a classic teen angst tale. Both the writing and the art are great - Brian Wood's writing, for it's believable dialog and characterization, Becky Cloonan's art for it's outstanding black and white composition. There is no grayscale here - and almost no shading - everything is in stark black and white - which fits the story, yet the blacks and whites are almost perfectly balanced in every panel.
I read that this made Wizard's list of 100 Best standalone comics. While I don't know if it would make my top 100 - I definitely think it is a very strong issue.
