    Cartoon Wisdom

I really liked Green Lantern in the 90s. I was just getting into comic books and Kyle was a great fit for me Green Lantern wise. Unfortunately those stories did not age very well (to be fair most don't) and this comic seems more like a parody of itself than a fun reminder of adventures past.

I hate the art in this book. It manages to capture the ascetic of 90s GL but that doesn't mean it's good. This entire book looks generic and Kyle most often looks like a relic from the 90s that should have stayed there. One of the things that set Kyle apparent from other Green Lanterns was that he was an artist so he would conjure up things from his ring that others wouldn't. Today they look stupid. I mean really stupid. Kyle was also a bit of a wise cracker (see Spider-Man in the 90s) but now it seems tired and forced because the whole issue is based around verbal (and actual) sparring.

Very little happens in the new issue of the pair. It's basically one long fight with quips of Batman stupidly shoved in. I began to wonder if this was how Green Lantern was in the 90s and from looking at a couple issue it was. Because of that it's hard to scold this book too much. It's faithful but unfortunately the source material isn't solid. It's still pretty bad.

On the subject of source material: the backup issue is terrible. It has Kyle reflecting on being a hero and it's slow and it's boring. The story ends when he meets up with Donna Troy and they talk for a bit. Their conversation is the stuff of bad soap operas including Kyle calling Donna "something I forgot at home". I was actually laughing while I was reading it.

    Don't buy this.
