Yuck. There were so many things wrong with that. Aside from Billy and Teddy being over-romanticized here, so were Xavin and Karolina. And not to mention Xavin was ALWAYS in his male form throughout that crossover. Everything was over dramatic there, too. Victor's/Vision's crush on Cassie? I think that all Young Avengers writing should be left to Heinberg, who knows how to keep things subtle.

I do agree that in Young Avengers/Runaways Billy and Teddy were almost treated as YA's token queers. But I don't think we can generalize all gay characters in comic books by looking at one crossover.

Because they are in the minority. People dont have to say they're heterosexual. Anyone would normally assume that. But a homosexual could very well have to tell you that they were gay before you had any inkling. And that being the case, it is harder for homosexuals to spot role models.

People naturally cling to others who are like they are, especially during the adolescent years. That's why teenagers are so cliquish. So when they look for role models, the look for people who have something in common with themselves. As an African America, I had no trouble spotting role models who I could find commonalities with, but lots of homosexuals could have a very difficult time of it, if there were not some known, openly gay individuals out there. So I think the comic book companies are trying to give their gay readership the same type of easily spotted role models.
