David Bowie was a British musician and actor. He constantly reinvented himself musically, though the height of his popularity occurred throughout the 1970s and the early 1980s. One of his musical alter-egos was the androgynous alien love messiah, "Ziggy Stardust." He has also been affiliated with several bands and acts, including Tin Machine, The Riot Squad [no relation to the Leader's group of gamma mutates], and The Hype.

Several biographies have been written about Bowie, most notably The Man Who Sold The World: David Bowie and the 1970s by Peter Doggett, Mark Spitz's David Bowie: A Biography, and David Bowie: Living on the Brink by George Tremlett. His life was also the focus of Rock N' Roll Comics #56 - David Bowie. As an actor, David Bowie did not limit himself to a specific genre, and appeared in Labyrinth (which was adapted by Marvel Comics), The Hunger, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Zoolander, and The Prestige, among other films. As well as being included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Bowie was inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in June, 2013.

The iconic Bowie died on January 10, 2016 from lung cancer. He is survived by his wife, Iman, and two children. His last album, Black Star, is considered his goodbye to his fans, as well as some of the best work of his career. Insight Comics published BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns, & Moonage Daydreams poathumously, a memoir and tribute dedicated to Bowie.
