End of Days... but for whom?

    Recommendation: Yes!

I had no idea what to expect going into this mini-series. I saw the cover, and though, "Hey, maybe they are alluding to something that doesn't actually happen?" I mean how can there be an 8-issue mini-series if Matt dies in the first issue?

Well whatever is actually going on, it seems like the pacing is dead on (no pun intended), and it has captured my attention, at least for the next couple issues...

The art is very gritty. It is certainly not "main stream", but it fits the book's tone and feel. It does take some getting used to, but once you do, you find yourself in a Hell's Kitchen, worthy of its name.

The story is told from the perceptive of a Daily Bugle reporter. This is not the Daily Bugle that we are all familiar with - No, this is set in a time where the Bugle is all but dead - and this reporter, Ben Urich, knows there is nothing left to write... especially about this "last days" story of Daredevil, the beloved and hated, Matt Murdock.

The structure and format of this comic makes it feel like a very long issue. Heck, it may be more pages that usual, but if not, it feels that way. There are more panels in this issue than I commonly see in any comic. It works though - it works to tell the story in a very different way, an erratic way, a deliberately erratic way.

As far as the story itself, you get a very raw look into a different Daredevil than we have become accustomed to in the past year or so, written by Mark Waid. Well this is not Waid's Daredevil. For better or worse, this is a Bendis/Mack Daredevil.

Killing. Justified or not, there is death. Punisher style.

Heroes don't kill? Are you sure about that?

Anyway, we get a very interesting story. One that starts out with a bang and ends with a question... a question that will be answered within the next seven issues...

End of Days... but for whom?

As a side, this scored a .5 point increase for the Citizen Cane reference. :)

The GoodI was a little apprehensive as to whether to get this as not as it seems the story was centred around Ben Urich and his story after Daredevil Died (you all ready know it's on the cover so I will talk about it) I didn't see where it could go after that but I was pleasantly surprised! The real Surprise was that Daredevil dies in the first 5 pages I thought it would be the big Cliffhanger but it wasn't. The rest of the issue is the fallout from that event and what Ben Urich does he also giv...
