Herla, Herlenkönig, Hellequin and, to finish it up, Alichino or Arlecchino… These are just some of the many names which, ever since medieval times, have designated the King of the Dead, the condottiero of a ghastly army that periodically emerges from the nether world to bring devastation and terror on earth. The scene now is the wild land of Brittany, where Harlan, as well as Tesla and Kurjak who go with him, arrives in search of the terrifying "Horde of Hellequin”… Who is Hellequin? What did he have to do with the past of Araxe, in the era of the French Revolution? Is it true that his army of dead warriors was engaged in a clash with the ruthless General Westermann's "infernal column", the one that was responsible for the massacres in Brittany and Vandea? And whose bell still tolls in the ruined abbey of Kergelen? ... As she recounts her long and tragic tale, beautiful Araxe will gradually unravel many of these queries, which arose at the time she was known, by Republicans and Chouans, as the Baroness of Kerkadio...
