Singer screwed Cyclops to centralize the attention to a pretty-boy, tall, non-gritty Wolverine cause he knew that's how the film will sell.
Cyclops
Character » Cyclops appears in 11232 issues.
The first X-Man, Scott Summers possesses the mutant ability to fire powerful concussive blasts through his eyes that act as a portal to another dimension full of the force that makes up his optic blast. He is visually distinctive for the ruby quartz visor he wears to control his devastating power. A born leader, Cyclops succeeded his mentor Professor X to command the X-Men.
what's your view on how cyclops was portrayed in the xmen film
Did Cyclops get more than maybe 20 minutes across the span of all three films?
I hated the way Cyclops and Wolverine were in the original trilogy. They essentially made Logan's character like Scott with an edge. I couldn't help but think through the entirety of X3 and some of X2 that it should have been Cyclops in Wolverine's place. They did a terrible job balancing those two which is a shame because everyone knows of the tension they have and it was genuinely entertaining watching them snap at each other at times in the original movie. I also didn't like how weak he was made to be. The part at the end of X-Men when he suggests Storm "fry" Magneto before Magneto explains how moronic of an idea that is seemed like something Cyke would know and again, felt like a line Wolverine probably should have spit out. While I do think the original trilogy holds up decently as general movies, as an X-Men fan I can nitpick about it all day long which is a shame.
- Bryan Singer and David Hayter must not have been Cyclops fans, it's almost like they went out of their way to make him look like a chump.
- James Marsden was a pretty unknown actor at the time so he got pimped to make Storm looks good (Hallie Berry was a bigger name) and Wolverine look better (fan fav). It's a shame because I think he is a pretty good actor and was given nothing to work with.
I didn't like how Cyclops was portrayed in the films. He was the main X-Men character and he was always treated so badly in the films. Probably the worst of the films was the third one where Cyclops was killed off in the beginning of the film.
Don't get me started. I didn't care at first since all I knew of Cyc' at the time was the 90's cartoon and to me he was pretty lame. Then when I re-watched those cartoons (after the movies) I started to appreciate his character, and then now that i've read the old comics I feel royally pissed. His character was screwed over so bad. So baaadddddd. O____O
didn't like the films at all to be honest(Hulk, Ironman movies, Spidey 1 and 2, Avengers for having the Avengers) and Cyc was treated terribly
he's a character you don't understand until you have dreams(for a goal or a girl) and then sh*t start falling apart. I like that he's the good boy who will break you if put into a corner. I like that he cares for his girlfriend/wife a little more then mission but will do everything to save both. I like that he kinda hates Logan for messing with his chick but sees his value to the team. Scott stories are like Cables if he just didn't get to be a loner. He has a prime directive but cares.
when I was younger, I loved Logan and still do but as i got older saw Scott as a man who puts his gun where his d*ck is. he's the dad out on the lawn when the biker gang runs into town. he's the most qualified doctor, who stayed when the town got infested. he's the lifeguard that volunteered for a shark beach. Scotts a fcking man.
This pretty much sums it up:
precisely.
