    During the battle on Armageddon Plain, Culver Harland attempted to summon the most powerful demon in Hell. Unfortunately, the only demon in Hell at the time was Gaudium, a somewhat buffoonish demon with little power.

    Harland, however, proceeded to barter with his soul. Gaudium provided the mummified goddess, Eriti, who could grant Harland's wishes. After making several wishes, including making himself the youthful ruler of everyone currently in Hell, Harland's paranoia (provoked by comments made by the demon Spera) led him command Eriti to forbid any power but his own to work in Hell. This negated Eriti's magics, leaving Harland alone and powerless in Hell.
