    Overview

This year-long weekly series featuring a cast of hundreds kicks into high gear in its second month, under the watchful eye of head writer Paul Dini! See Mary Marvel undergo a surprising transformation! Learn why Donna Troy and Jason Todd are integral players in a cosmic chess game! And see Jimmy Olsen as you've never seen him before!

When the Monitor's agent Forerunner is about to deal the crushing blow to Jason Todd, Donna Troy leaps in and knocks her back. Donna Troy is beginning to learn what she is dealing with when she looks down at the blood now rushing out of her fist. Rebounding almost instantly from the blow, Forerunner warns Donna to run. When Donna refuses, the fight is truly on. It begins to look like Donna may lose the battle when one of the Monitors appears before them. When she does not abide his commands to stop he forces her, explaining that her race was bred specifically to be tools of the Monitors and that she could never hurt him. Between universes the other Monitors continue to discuss the problems related to the ever increasing breeches of the source wall.

Learning of the distrust the monitors hold for her people, Forerunner vows to sever her ties to the Monitors, tearing a braid out of her hair and telling that she will stay among the humans.

Meanwhile Jimmy Olsen is investigating the scene of the murder at the apartment home of Sleez, who had promised Olsen information on the death of the New God Lightray. Talking into his tape recorder Olsen lays the foundation of his story by describing who the New Gods are as well as the bizarre new powers he has been experiencing.

High above the Earth on the Justice League Satellite, Dr. Midnight tries to comfort Karate Kid who is becoming increasingly worried about their teammates who are lost on the Earth.

This issue comes with an update on the countdown history of the multiverse.

I loved the cover and art of Countdown...I will say this every week if it continues. I liked Forerunner as a villain...she is pretty good. Donna picking up a machine gun and shooting at her was funny. Maybe just maybe they will kill Jason off...wishful thinking. Jimmy was of course boring and loserish, but he did go through a basic explanation of the New Gods that was probably necessary. Oh and I am a big adversary of putting someone on the cover that does not show inside...lets count...10 that ...
