    If you've ever participated in karaoke, then you know there's two types of people who participate in the activity: those who are having a great time, and those who think they're about to be discovered by some nomadic record producer and made into a star. The same can be said about those who cosplay, although I'm not sure how someone who enjoys cosplay can be made into a star. Anyway, it's about time someone smashes these two awesome activities into one, is it not? Luckily, someone put two and two together and realized that these two sub-cultures belong on the same stage. Enter, Cosplay Karaoke.

    The idea is pretty simple, and pretty genius at the same time. Get on stage, belt out your favorite song, while wearing a costume of your favorite character. Do the song and the costume have to match? Would Uatu the Watcher have to sing "Only the Lonely" by The Motels? No, but that sounds pretty darn funny.

    Recently, Nerdmelt at Meltdown Comics hosted their Cosplay Karaoke. It as just like any other karaoke night, with one rule: "YOU MUST BE IN COSTUME IN ORDER TO SING!" The show was presented by writer Scott Lobdell and hosted by Nicki Hunter from the Playboy Network. Seemed like it was quite the party, with many memorable moments: Dr. Strange duckwalking during Boston's "More Than a Feeling," then later singing Ray Charles' "Hit the Road Jack," Domino from X-Force belting out La Roux's "Bulletproof," Rizzo from Grease preforming The Neverending Story theme song, and Scott Lobdell dressed as "Superman on his day off" leading a group rendition of "Summer Night's" from the movie Grease.

    Cosplay Karaoke will return in January.

    That brings me back to Uatu the Watcher singing "Only the Lonely." Matching up a character to a song is a pretty hilarious idea. In fact, here's a few characters I would dress up as, and the songs I would sing.

    It's always exciting to see something positive happen in the world of comic books. Not only that, it's nice to see something fun and unique, other than a convention or signing. True, this idea of cosplay karaoke may not be in direct correlation with reading comic books, but there is a connection between the two.

    Also, it's good for the community to come together, and not just at the comic book store, online, or again, at a convention. We all read comics. We all love comics. Why aren't we coming together more to enjoy the night life together?

    What do you guys think about cosplay karaoke? More importantly, what comic book character would you match with what song? I want to see some suggestions that'll make me laugh!

    Universal laws

    * Everything goes with karaoke

    * Cosplay doesn't go with everything but it should.

    This sounds like a fun time to go too. Personally I'm not hot on karaoke but this has a whole different vibe to the experience.
