This issue features an adaptation of the classic story by Robert E. Howard:
A bloody conflict is coming to a close on an icy wasteland somewhere on the Aesgard and Vanaheim borders...Amidst the fallen corpses of their comrades,a young Conan fights it out with a Vanir warrior.
Conan cuts his opponent down, and victorious but weary, turns and stumbles away across the snowy landscape, soon collapsing with fatigue...
The young Cimmerian comes around upon hearing a silvery laugh and beholds a beautiful girl with ivory white skin and golden hair, wearing only a light gossamer shift, facing him.
The girl seems to know Conan`s name, and teases him to chase her, before running light-footed away across the snow...
Driven by passion, Conan follows, but the mysterious girl remains just agonizingly out of reach. The girl leads her pursuer between towering cliffs, from behind which step two axe-wielding giants. Conan takes them both on in combat as the girl calls encouragment to her `brothers` to slay the Cimmerian.
However, it is Conan who is the victor, cutting down both giants. The young barbarian then continues his pursuit of the alluring girl, who flees before him. But Conan manages to reach her, and grips her in an embrace, she struggles and slips away, leaving her simple gossamer garment in his grasp. Strange lights flicker and blaze across the sky as the girl shrieks to the heavens for Ymir, her father, to save her, and in a flash of blue flame she vanishes!
The ground heaves, thunder rolls and the blazing lights flash across the sky and Conan collapses unconcious to the snow...
He regains conciousness, a group of his surviving comrades have found him lying in the snow and are helping to revive him. Conan tells them of his encounter. The others seem doubtful, but an old warrior claims Conan speaks of Atali, Ymir`s daughter, who lures men to be slain by her Frost Giant brothers.
And to Conan`s amazement, he still clenches the girl`s flimsy gossamer veil in his fist... also in this issue is the first Conan test story from Chamber of Darkness #4 where 'Conan' is the barbarian warrior 'Starr' who kills the writer who created him.
