Very little is known about Commander Cold's origin. Born and raised in the 25th century, he became a police officer. At some point he became one of the founding members and leader of the Reverse Flash Task Force, also known as the Renegades.
Commander Cold was created by Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul. He is closely based on Captain Cold. He made his first appearance in The Flash #1.
Major Story Arcs
The Dastardly Death of the Rogues
Commander Cold leads the Renegades into the past to arrest the Flash, who is apparently responsible for the death of their comrade, Mirror Monarch. They fail to capture him, and Cold and his team are forced to return to the future. They regroup and return to the past, where he and his team end up encountering the Rogues. During the fight he battles Heat Wave and Captain Boomerang. They successfully capture Flash and bring him to the future. During the ensuing trial, Cold acknowledges the instability of their own historical knowledge. After Flash escapes and apprehends the Top, Cold takes Top into custody to be tried in the future. Aware that there is a rift in time, Cold proposes warning Flash, but is denied.
Powers and Abilities
Commander Cold has no known superhuman powers or abilities. He is a trained police officer, implying a familiarity with detection, and training in armed and unarmed combat. He is fairly intelligent, and a skilled leader. He is familiar with the use of future technology, including time travel.
Weapons and Equipment
Cold wields a cold gun that can generate absolute zero to a variety of effects, including freezing objects solids and creating ice or snow. He carries small snowflakes that create small but powerful blizzards. He wears a suit that contains a voice-activated mechanism allowing him to freeze anyone who is touching him. He also wears goggles that cut down on the glare generated by his gun. Like the other Renegades he has access to time travel technology in the form of time platforms, which also allows him to fly.
