Kirby created and co-created a multitude of Marvel and DC's most popular characters and many others, too. Kirby was one of the most respected artists of his time (though he didn't have personal knowledge of that, until later on), and remains so today.
Mike Grell's long association with DC comics began in 1973 when he took over artistic duties on 'Superboy and The Legion of Superheroes'. He later became a legend in the industry with his modernized, grounded take on Green Arrow in the late 80's.
