    Origins

Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the forest planet of Kashyyk. Born 200 years before the Battle of Yavin. Chewbacca was the son of Attichitcuk. Growing up, Chewbacca was known for his sense of adventure, always exploring different parts of his homeworld, including the dangerous Shadowlands. One day, Chewbacca met his future wife Mallatobuck, but was unaware of the her feelings toward him. One day, a group of Trandoshan slavers came and tried to capture Mallatobuck, but Chewbacca came to her rescue. Slowly a relationship blossomed, until it was threatened by another Wookiee named, Tojjevvuk, an albino Wookie, who also had his sights on her.

Chewbacca was forced into an honor duel with Tojjevvuk for Malla's hand, but Tojjevvuk brought dishonor on the duel by using his claws, forbidden for a Wookiee. The two later fought in the trees, and due to Chewbacca's skills in navigating in the forest, he was able to sneak behind Tojjevvuk and kick him where he fell into the Shadowlands.

By the time The Clone Wars broke out, Chewbacca was a warrior during the clone wars for the battle of Kashyyyk. After order 66 Chewbacca was enslaved by the galactic empire and later freed by Han Solo.

    Creation

    Character Evolution

Chewbacca has undergone some dramatic character development since his first appearances in the clone wars where he was a rebellious beserk fighter. After owing Han Solo a life debt he became more restrained, having to take orders and working alongside Han without complaining.

Following the conclusion of the rebellion we see Chewbacca maturing from the impulsive youth he was at the beginning to a skilfull warrior, expert technician and most loyal of team-mates.

Chewbacca first appeared in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, protecting his planet from the Confederate with the help of The Republic and Jedi Master Yoda. When Order 66 came, Chewbacca helped Master Yoda off the planet.

Nineteen years after the Rise of The Empire, Chewbacca was responsible for bringing Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker to meet his Captain, Han Solo after Bo Shek introduced them to him. The Wookiee and his friend Han had no way of knowing what would happen next, what seemed like little more then a simple transport mission for two passengers and two droids would turn the pair of smugglers worlds upside down.

It became clear quickly that Luke and Obi-Wan were no ordinary passengers when a garrison of Sandtroopers ambushed them in the docking bay that the Millennium Falcon was located in, and more obvious when the ship was attacked by an Imperial Star Destroyer that was in orbit of Tatooine.

As the unlikely group came out of hyperspace at their destination, they were shocked to find Alderaan was now nothing but a field of asteroids and debris, and a ominous moon-like structure drew closer, it was the Death Star. Han and Chewbacca did not have enough time to escape and the Millenium Falcon was captured with a tractor beam. But when the Empire boarded the Falcon, they found no passengers, as the group of heroes were hiding in smuggling compartments Han had built into the ship.

The group managed to dispose of an Imperial scanning crew then called to the two Stormtroopers guarding the Falcon outside, Luke and Han disguised themselves as Stormtroopers and Chewbacca posed as their prisoner. Together the trio infiltrated the detention block and rescued Princess Leia.

After escaping the Death Star, thanks to Obi-Wan Kenobi making the ultimate sacrifice, Han and Chewbacca delivered Luke, Leia, R2-D2, and C-3PO safely on Yavin, unaware that the Empire had been tracking them. Han had his reward and despite some protest from Chewbacca left the planet, but during the closing moments of the Battle of Yavin, Han and Chewbacca aboard the Millenium Falcon disabled Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, allowing Luke to fire the proton torpedo that destroyed the Death Star. Luke, Han, and Chewbacca were shortly after honored as Rebel heroes.

Three years after the destruction of The Death Star, Chewbacca was still with the Rebel Alliance on the Planet Hoth. Chewie was busy making repairs to The Millennium Falcon while Han went to search for Luke who had gone missing. The following day, Chewie was relieved to find that Han and

A few years later Han and Chewbacca was sent to do a mission with Anakin Solo. When they got there the planet was about to be destroyed by a moon. Their mission was to evacuate as many of the planet's inhabitants aboard the Millenium Falcon. While loading them, Anakin fell out of the ship. Chewbacca jumped back onto the planet and grabbed him and threw him back on the ship, saving his life. Anakin then began to pilot the ship while Han reached out to rescue his co-pilot. Anakin however flew off, believing that they could not save him and that in attempting to save his life they would lose their own. Chewbacca died with a defiant roar when the moon crashed into the planet alongside many of the planet's inhabitants. His death led to Han resenting his son.
