Things are looking up for Tony Chu!
Tony Chu is finally getting the credit he deserves, but for how long will it last? John Layman and Rob Guillory join the man with a crazy appetite in the 41st issue of the series.
The Good
With CHEW only 19 issues away from completing; it looks like writer John Layman and artist Rob Guillory are looking to answer questions and give a meaningful end once this series hits issue 60. In this issue, Tony Chu gets married?! With Tony closing in on Collector's whereabouts and finally being a big success in the eyes of his F.D.A. peers; getting married in Vegas is the next logical step! Am I right?
This was a pretty solid issue. While the story of Tony hunting, and eventually, killing the Collector is taking it's time; John Layman is still setting out some impressive story elements that are building up to that big confrontation. This issue, for example, is one of the funnier issues that are a part of this big story arc; but acts as a breath of fresh air and it also has a major event occur at the same time.
From start-to-finish, John Layman had me hooked in the story. Having Chu getting married so fast made a lot of sense. With people close to him dying pretty off-and-on; savoring this moment of his life is important. I like how Layman really hit that hard as to getting the character to realize that revenge isn't the only thing he needs to focus on. I'm really interested in seeing how Layman plays with this new marriage and hopefully making it turn out good or crippling to Tony Chu's career.
Rob Guillory's art is still the best! I mean as unique as the story of CHEW is, and how John Layman takes readers on a crazy adventure; the artwork is just as important. I'm glad Guillory is the artist and I can't see anyone else interpreting the world of CHEW.
The Bad
No complaints.
The Verdict
