Charlie was created under the name Nash in the Japanese versions, is first mentioned in Street Fighter II as a friend of Guile killed by M. Bison, appeared in the Street Fighter Alpha series, which takes place before the events of Street Fighter II, Charlie came to be called Charlie Nash in the Udon Comics, a name that was made official by Capcom in the Street Fighter V game.

    Street Fighter Alpha series

Charlie is the deceased war buddy of Guile in the Street Fighter series. Although he was pronounced dead before the events of Street Fighter 2, Charlie appeared as a playable character in Street Fighter Alpha which would be considered the prequel to Street Fighter 2. Charlie had been a first lieutenant of the U.S. Air Force where he met Guile and the two became close friends. Charlie would even teach Guile most of his techniques later revealing why their fighting styles are so similar. While Charlie and Guile are able to use the same moves Guile is still less experienced an example shown in how he needs two arms to unleash the sonic boom while Charlie only needs one.

Charlie was sent to by the U.S. government to track down M.Bison and unravel the corruption within the U.S. government and in his ending of Street Fighter Alpha, he is seen defeating Bison only to be caught by a sneak attack from behind. In the Alpha series of the games Charlie's death appears in many ways while in Alpha 3 it is shown that him and Guile defeat Bison together, but Charlie stays behind in an attempt to destroy the psycho drive and dies in the process, which results in Guile returning in the sequel Street Fighter 2 to avenge his fallen comrades death.

    Street Fighter V

He returns in Street Fighter V, where he appears with grotesque skin grafts all over his body and a green gem implanted on his forehead.

In this game, his story begins in a flashback to the events of Street Fighter Alpha 2, where we see him letting the emotions get the best of him and heading to M. Bison on his own, in order to deal with the dictator once and for all. However, he got shot by a US helicopter and left for dead. Later, he was found by a mysterious russian woman called Helen, who provided with what happened when he was devoid of life. After hearing it all, Nash promises that M. Bison will pay dearly and holds on to this hatred of his to the very end.

Helen asks him to get some piece from his former friend and comrade Guile, that happens to be fundamental for Bison's plan, in an attempt to thwart it. He eventually finds him, Chun-Li and Cammy, and wins the fight against him. After he retrieves Guile's piece, he meets with Helen, Rashid and his friend Azam on Russia. After Juri Han meets them as well, she explains the endgame of her plan: to destroy Bison and Shadaloo once for all, as well as to get her leader to reign over the world. Eventually, Urien appears and reveals himself as being one of the responsibles for bringing Nash back to life, challenging him to test the results of the technology he used to such end. Nash gets soundly defeated, but as Urien was about to deliver the final blow, Rashid comes to his rescue. After an irritated Urien leaves the scene, Helen reveals Nash has been dead for a long time, and as such, his body has weakened. Helen then touches Nash's green gem, which then glows and apparently recovers some of his strength.

Later, Rashid, Azam and him infiltrate Shadaloo's main base; Nash then goes head-on to confront Bison, hell bent on destroying him at once. He was no match for the dictator, and only flees due to Necalli's interference. He then meets Rashid and Azam as he laments for not being able to kill Bison. When Rashid is talking about his missing friend, his calmer side emerges when he could relate about him and his friends. Necalli appears yet again to pursue the group, who could only escape thanks to Karin and her group's helicopter; as Charlie was hanging on to the vehicle, Guile gives him his hand to pull him up. They all rendez-vous on the Kanzuki's Zaibatsu, where Nash helps Guile restrain Abel, who was being influenced by the Psycho Power. Nash then touches Abel's forehead and manages to absorb the Psycho Power locked within him, as Abel soon regains his senses and thanks Nash. As he leaves with Rashid and Azam, Guile gives his dog tag back, as a distraught Abel seems to remember seeing him before.

The trio regroups with Juri and now Cammy; Helen comes soon after, cheerful about the news of how to stop the activation of Shadaloo's plan, enabling Charlie to kill Bison. However, Charlie realizes that he won't be able to do such a daunting task, saying that the other group is more able to do so. This enrages Helen, who then says she sacrificed a lot to bring him back to life with the power of her lord and that he's the one destined to destroy him. Nash isn't convinced, as he says his power won't cut it against his, which continues to grow. Helen then reveals that she only has need for him up until Bison's death, saying there are no second chances for "dead men". He brushes off the taunt and only remarks he'll do what he has to do, leaving with Rashid.

In their last infiltration on the base, Nash goes to face Bison for a last time. He finds Guile, Chun-Li and Ryu facing Bison. Nash tells them to wait, and after giving a brief smirk to the group, he faces Bison atop the Lair of the Four Kings. He gains the upper hand briefly before Bison quickly rises and then gives a palm strike to Nash's gut. Nash raises his hand and puts it on the dictator's chest, in order to absorb the immense Psycho Power within him. Although his body can't take all that power, Nash continues to absorb it until his body overflows with power, at which point he explodes into light, resulting on his definitive death. Bison leaves the encounter unscathed, but his Psycho Power has weakened significantly, meaning Nash's final gambit did work, resulting on Ryu being able to finally destroy the dictator - and Shadaloo - for good.
