In a post on his blog, writer Charles Soule announced that he signed exclusively with Marvel. DEATH OF WOLVERINE #1 comes out on 9/3/14 and with that comes Soule's new decision. Many people may be worried about how this will affect his current work at DC Comics, where he is currently penning SWAMP THING (The FUTURES END issue comes out September 3rd), SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN, and RED LANTERNS. Luckily, Soule will have the chance to finish up his run.

This means that I won’t be writing for DC Comics for a while, which was not an easy decision to make. DC gave me my first shot at “Big 2” comics with Swamp Thing, and my profile took a massive leap forward when they trusted me to write Superman / Wonder Woman. Red Lanterns has been a blast as well, not to mention all the other side projects, one-offs I’ve been lucky enough to write – and of course the projects I haven’t written yet! So let me be clear – the decision to work with Marvel for a while isn’t any sort of denigration of DC. I had a fantastic time there, I was treated extremely well, I have strong positive feelings about all of my editors and the DC universe of characters, and I look forward to hopefully working with them at some point down the road. You’ll still see DC work coming out from me for a little while yet over the coming months, and both Marvel and DC were extremely gracious about working with me to make sure that I could complete my runs on DC titles the way I originally intended. So, you’ll see my work on Red Lanterns as part of the big Godhead event, you’ll see me ending my run onSuperman / Wonder Woman the way I wanted to, and Swamp Thing will continue under my pen for a little while as well

Soule will also continue to write LETTER 44, while signed exclusively with Marvel, so fans of that series have nothing to worry about. Soule went on to say that writing eight on-going books was a challenge requiring a lot of focus. He stated that he is ready for his next challenge.

It's clear Soule has a lot of love for the industry and his craft and there's no hard feelings leaving DC. He's just ready for the next step in his career. This is surprising news. Soule has become one of my favorite writers. I'll be sad to see his run on Red Lanterns end, but I look forward to seeing what his future projects will be with Marvel.

His Swamp Thing run has been great. I'm sad to see him go but have really enjoyed watching him soar as a writer since taking over from Scott Snyder. Man...DC is losing a stellar talent.

@captainmarvel4ever: oh well I think Marvel offer Soule alot of money and I'm not surprise if Marvel will announce him as new Avengers comic writer after Hickman run end. This is same things they DC did to Scott Snyder. DC saw alot of potential with Scott Snyder and decide hey lets offer him alot of money and works with us at DC

Now I'm worry that Red Lanterns and Swamp Thing books will be mediocre after Soule leave. Hope DC announce good creative team or hopefully DC don't cancel both books

I have really been a huge fan of him since he took over swamp thing. I wish he was staying on the DC books, but either way I will be reading his stuff.

well that sucks all his best books are with DC i wish him luck though. I hope marvel will give him sentry to write i would love to see him tackle a character like that.

Charles Soule said hes finished the scripts for Swamp Thing and Red Lanterns till March which would put both at issue 40 when he ends his run.

Interesting, I wonder how long the deal is for. Absolutely professionally-written exit notice. It's good to see writers getting contracts ... not an easy gig, I'm sure.

Well I don't know about Red Lanterns or Swamp Thing, but Superman/WonderWoman will be in good hands (better hands) with Peter Tomasi writing it. I didn't really read Soule's Red Lantern run but I am liking his Swamp Thing run. I tried to read his She-Hulk, but could not get into the art or the writing. For me he is just meh.

i cant believe this! his DC titles were kick-ass! his writing impeccable. now pressures on DC to not only replace Soules' amazing titles with avid talent (good luck to you on Swamp Thing...that series imo is now gonna die out) but also now with Image and Marvel contracting two big names in the industry pressures on DC to contract someone onto their team as well now. Cause aside from Azza and Snyder their team right now aint too great compared to Marvel's great cast, Bendis, Aaron, Remender and now Soule.

Good luck DC. i love you but you tend to not care about who writes what, i.e Michele Pfifer on Teen Titans (that has already been rebooted) and the damn Finch couple tasked with writing Wonder Woman.

Me too, with the other two being Batman and Batman Eternal. This is a serious bummer to hear, but I look forward to his new Marvel books -- and Death of Wolverine. Everyone seems hot on the first issue... I hope he makes it awesome.

Cant really say I am all that sad to see this, the pre-existing books I did read end up being dropped rather quickly when he turned up.

That said, its just Marvel's strategy by the looks of it; let DC develop the talent and then snatch em up.

Swamp Thing better get an equally stellar writer!

I can't imagine who could take over Red Lanterns now. He did a superb job at what was once most people's least favorite of the Lantern books and made it something to care for. He made the characters relatable, he placed Guy in a good position where he is still learning from mistakes while making good decisions, and we had a lot of crazy space fun!

I only read SM/WW and didn't like it at all,cant say I'm too broken up over it.
