A Leap of Faith
A God without his memories and knowledge of who he truly is, his essence, a Woman (Becca) without hope, lingering in this world out of anger, fear and guilt, and a God made of a Pantheon of identities who can´t put together all of them and destroy his target in the name of the all mighty Chaos God (Mikaboshi). J.M. DeMatteis uses these three character to create an interesting and solid tie-in about hope, desilusion, fear, anger and faith, stablishing a connection between Becca (who´s soul is broke and yet she still has faith) and Blake/Thor (who´s lost but still answers for prayers) in a universe consumed by chaos. This book focus more in the narrative of Becca´s captions, what gives a dynamic to the frame movements and I dare say that´s a writing worth of all the awards: deep, touching, not cheesy, mixing action and the right level of sentimentalism. Brian Ching´s art is very impressive and he captured all the concepts and ideas that DeMatteis gave to this story. This was an excellent tie-in, that happens in the middle of Chaos War #s 3 and 4, and it was cool seeing more Don Blake than Thor, who in the end returns to the fray to help Hercules (Chaos War # 5). I recommend this issue not only for those who are following the Chaos War miniseries, but for all of the comic book fans that apreciate a good literature kind of writing and beautiful art, like the sample that I will leave here. Enjoy!
