Little is known of the past, name or full abilities of Chainlink. Chainlink is a vagrant criminal who may either be a mutant or mutate who fell into poverty and crime in the outskirts of Aspen, Colorado. Desert Ghost was sent to a mutant rehabilitation center on the rejections of his father who later escaped his captivity transportation to gain temporary asylum with Chainlink for several years. Desert Ghost would later set to leave the gang he lived with to become an enemy of Chainlink on his desertion that had become a revived memory during Desert Ghost's later memory resurfaces under the telepathic initiations of Brimstone Love during Xian Chi Xan's trials to become a member of the Theatre of Pain since defecting his leadership of X-Men 2099 and retrieving Master Zhao's body plus his former X-Men clones. Chainlink is wrapped with a chain which is either a part of his body or a cybernetic tool that Chainlink uses as a weapon which he controls with targeted efficiency. It is uncertain if Chainlink is alive since Desert Ghost's last fight with him since much of his past is told by flashbacks.
