Cédric Hervan was born Cédric Van Heirweghe in Belgium on June 7, 1981. His favorite comic book creators include André Juillard, E.P. Jacobs, Jacques Martin, Frank Le Gall and Philippe Berthet, and he follows specialized classes in Waterloo under Jean-François Di Giorgio's tutelage in addition to his regular education. He meets Jacques Martin at 18, in 1999, who charges him with the creation of an album in the Les Voyages d’Alix series. Satisfied with his work, Martin commissions another volume and pairs him with Christophe Simon on an album of the flagship Les Aventures D'Alix series. Hervan was at one point meant to illustrate the fourth album of Martin's Orion series, called Roi des Rois ("King of Kings"), but the series was eventually taken over by Marc Jailloux in 2011 with a new story after he left Martin and launched his own series, Le Dernier des Schoenfeld, with writers Agnès Barrat-Bartoll and Jean-Claude Bartoll, who he met on Internet.
