To seal a rift in time caused by a time-displaced Galvatron, the Autobots and Decepticons enacted a joint operation to forcefully return him to his own era. Catilla and his friend Carnivac were two of the only members of the Decepticon's Mayhem Attack Squad to survive the battle, after which they found themselves abandoned on Earth by their Decepticon superiors who were embarrassed by the mission's outcome.

They joined the remaining members of the Autobot squad they'd fought alongside, the Wreckers, to form a new team called the Survivors. This disgusted their Decepticon cohort Snarler however, and he stalked off, planning to return with an execution squad. He soon got his wish as he led a newly formed Mayhem Attack squad to execute them. This team was successful in killing Catilla, but Carnivac survived and swore vengeance.
