I've Lost Some Excitement Over This

The return of Carnage continues as we see how he/it got back to Earth as well as more bloody action.

    The Good

Clayton Crain's art is really growing on me with this series. The tone should be dark and mysterious and that's what we get here. The first issue had obvious questions as we're slowly building up to finding out what the future will hold for Carnage. In this issue we find out how Carnage made his way back to Earth after Sentry took him out in space and tore him in half.

Deep down I still hold some resentment towards Tony Stark for the way he treated Spider-Man in Civil War but we get some great interaction between the two here. This is what their team ups should be like. You don't get to see this relationship in the Avengers titles due to all the other characters mixed in.  The story takes a slight turn towards the end and you know it's not going to mean good news for Spider-Man or Iron Man.

    The Bad

The release schedule for this book really hampered my enjoyment for this issue. It might seem petty thing and something I should get over but I lost some of the excitement I had after reading the first issue. The guards Spider-Man and Iron Man had to battle also brought back a bad taste in my mouth as it reminded me the Five Symbiotes from Venom: Lethal Protector #4

There were some moments the combination of Crain's dark art and crazy action made events a little confusing. Most of the action happened towards the end and felt like it was crammed into the last few pages.

    The Verdict

The bi-monthly schedule is really hurting this miniseries. I was pleasantly surprised over the first issue but having to wait that extra month allowed some of that excitement to go away. This series is meant to give up the rebirth of Carnage...and we're almost there. Being honest, we all want to see Carnage go up against Spider-Man and Iron Man. I understand that this being a five issue miniseries, we can't have that final battle at the beginning. I do hope we'll see and find out more about this new Carnage in the next issue. Hopefully it will get me as excited as I was after reading the first issue.

Is it wrong that I secretly want Hybrid and Scream to show up in this issue, so Carnage can murder them and we can be done with them? I mean, just one last trick out of limbo--

    TO DIE.

It's All in the Pacing 0

The Good: Crain's art continues to suit the mood of this story perfectly, and the shadows are toned down a tad, making things a lot clearer. The dialogue is fantastic. Wells has a beautiful grasp of Spider-Man and it shows in spades. Now we come to the big thing that impressed me, was the pacing. It can be tough to write a superhero comic like a horror movie, but damn if that isn't what happened here, and it worked. There's a lot of back and forth between the 2 different sets of characters, and ...

      Maximum Nostalgia 0

As someone who works in media, there is always one adage to live by when it comes to putting out a product. “Sex, humor, and violence sells.” Now, although this may be true, there is also another primal focus that can draw us into a product, even if devoid of those other aspects, especially from what I’ve seen of my generation. Nostalgia. So even though I haven’t been staying up to speed on the more modern adventures of Spider-Man outside of his time in the New Avengers, (I’ve mostly boycotted S...
