    Origin

    Steve Richards is an ordinary human being who decided to play superhero to get a merchandising deal with the Tomyco Toy Company for manufacturing Captain Crusader's action figure. While building confidence by apprehending small-time muggers, he eventually met his match in hardened street thugs. Beaten up time and again, he nevertheless went out as Captain Crusader again, until a mugger in the park drew a gun on him and fired. It is unknown if Captain Crusader was hit and if so, survived the shot.
