Some people would thank their lucky stars for the chance to play Captain America in a movie; yet the man that will get paid to do it isn't all too thrilled about the process he will have to endure. Sure he might like the character and he's definitely excited about bringing the Winter Soldier story arc to the big screen, but there are definitely things about the process it takes to get there that leave him less than thrilled.

I'm dreading it, this is what I keep thinking. We start Captain America 2: Winter Soldier in March so come January I have to…get back in that routine. And then I start thinking about all the future movies and I think to myself, "how am I going to keep getting big?" It's such a chore. I hate to admit it but it's such a chore. It's months and months of lifting heavy, heavy stuff. Not looking forward to it. But you know what, it's worth it because I am happy with the movies and I do love the character. What am I saying though, these are good problems to have.

Not to worry, Chris Evans; we all appreciate the long hours you spend "lifting heavy stuff" at the gym. We promise. Really though, it isn't just the countless hours at the gym that seem to be an issue for Evans. Evidently there is a lot more to it than that. During the interview Evans brought up an interesting point; not only is he more comfortable doing smaller, independent films opposed to the big budget blockbuster movies, but he finds them to generally be better films. In the interview Evans begs the question, "how often do you come out of a big budget movie thinking it was good?" That, in general, is a pretty bold statement. But we can't knock him for his honesty. Truth be told, he does make a pretty good point.

I've been pretty candid in the past, I'm not a huge fan of the studio movies…The process of making the movies is very tedious. Sometimes the final product becomes…sometimes the original vision becomes homogenized. The promoting process is a real chore. I much prefer these smaller films, they are just much more my speed. Luckily…thank God these movies were good…because, they're not always. I was so lucky. But it affords you the opportunity to do the smaller films you really want to do so…I'm really in the perfect situation right now…where I get to do a movie every six months with a group of people I really love. I love Marvel, I love The Avengers…and then in my down time I can go and do movies like this (The Iceman).

I go into every movie thinking it's going to be the worst thing in the world. It's unfortunate but true that often when I go to the movies I leave disappointed. Most of the time the best movies I see are at festivals like this (Toronto International Film Festival). You go to a big blockbuster movie the chances that you're going to walk out disappointed are pretty good, in my opinion. So when you jump on board to do a giant studio film movie you think, "what are the chances that this is going to turn out good?" Unfortunately slim. The fact that it came out the way it [The Avengers] did….God, man. That Joss. That Joss Whedon. Thank God for Joss Whedon! It's him. I owe that guy.

I think I can speak for everyone who enjoyed The Avengers when I say, we all "owe that guy." If not for Whedon, we might not be seeing a second Avengers film in the future as well as so many more superhero movies currently in pre-production. Regardless of the man's sentiments about hitting the gym as hard as he'll have to, we are still definitely looking forward to his reprisal of Captain America.

Damn straight Chris, Most movies in this day and age mostly have little to no artistic for thought or creativity alot of it is just to sell out to the specific demographics which is why when i go to movies its just to hang out with friends, nothing more cause I come in with the idea that any movie is going to suck. Film festivals do sometimes pump out some good thought provoking films.

I feel for those actors who do have to get told what to do all the time and have to have the specific body to do anything because its all about image. I would not put myself through it but then again I don't mind the ladies checking me out. its a double edged sword. Thanks for being honest Chris.

I completely understand what he's saying. He's not ranting and being bitchy like Kirsten Dunst was on the Spider-Man films, he was simply stating pros and cons to the role. He didn't go and bash it at all. In fact, I think he actually was showing a lot of appreciation for the role. He said he'd rather do smaller independent roles, and this role allows him to do them comfortably without worrying about monetary issues. He stated he loved the role and praised 1) his director 2) his co stars 3) his fans and 4) Marvel. You can't knock a guy for being both honest and humble.

as if chris evans knowss what problems are this guy is playing one of the most iconic characters in geek-pop culture, he has a fanbase of people who loved his two marvel characters, he probabaly gets laid every night, he's richer than most cops, lawyers, doctors etc.(who are the ones who deserve to be rich) and he is calling THESE problems? lol smh

I appreciate this guys honesty.....I a have been in the gym all the time with a strict diet and believe me....unless your training to fight professionally or something its complete rubbish....no one should have to live like that.

He doesn't seem to be whining, like I thought the article would reveal. I am certain any hesitations he have will be out of sight and out of mind when he makes his happy ass to the bank to cash his check when all is said and done.

His comments about other blockbuster type films is rather spot on; very few are worth going to see, but...thankfully...The Avengers def was!

We sometimes overlook the fact that making these movies is the actors' job. They work to make the movies and entretain us...Since they are not superheroes in real life, they have to work hard to look the part.

We should appreciate what they do for the sake of our geeky entertainment! ;D

Exactly This.

He was honest and said that he was dreading the intense workouts that he is going to do. Anyone who has played a sport knows how how hard it is to jump innto 2 a days let alone a workout regime that will put on 20lbs of muscle in a couple months.

So Chris Evans hates lifting weight? Finally! I have something in common with Captain America...

I'm in the gym all the time and I actually enjoy it, but the difference with him (if he were being completely honest) is that putting on that kind of ripped muscle in that short of a time frame without steroids is impossible. I'm not hating, it's just the truth.

I think Chris Evans is awesome as Captain America, i honestly didnt think he could do it but he is really great for the role.

The guy just brought up some negative aspects of the role and blockbusters in general while still saying he's extremely lucky to be in the place he is. And he isn't disrespecting The Avengers or Cap either so what gives?

Chris Evans feels very "trooper" about this whole thing. For reference, check out Megan Fox's attitude. What you just said...I think she's more deserving of it.

Interesting. I understand where's he coming personally, I truly do, but in the end, I can vouch for it being extremely satisfying and making a couple million playing such a heroic icon? Can't complain there.

I have a hard time losing a few pounds...I can only imagine how much work he had to put in to get the size he was in Captain America

I think the title of this article is a little misleading. Sure, he's not looking forward to the process of transforming back into character, but he's not really being as negative as I expected when I clicked my way here. And a lot of big budget films are bad. Hollywood is a factory that repeatedly churns out inane chick flicks, action films that lack decent plot and dialogue but attempt to keep you distracted with CG and explosions, and horror movies with painfully bad plot holes.

In terms of not liking all the workouts and bulking up, it's just a trade-off. You can be rich and famous and have awesome roles but you have to work to look the part, or you can be a regular person and not have to worry about it but also not have an acting career and tons of money. We all complain about work now and then, I see no problem here.

Very honest indeed, we all say bad things to what gets food on our table. But somehow, he kind of lost perspective. Or he's just used to getting what he wants, when he wants it...

No matter how you swing this, it just feels so unfair when privileged people complain on how lucky they are.

I appreciate his candor. And frankly, a lot of his points are valid and true. Most blockbusters are less about the craft of acting and bringing a character to life and more about big 'splozions making boom. I'd say all the Avengers cast have been fortunate in that they have such a great history of characters and settings and stories to draw from though. I think Evans gets that.

Think of it this way Chris Evans, Cap is better than being stuck in Rise of the Silver Surfer. Ughh...

I dont blame him. Studio movies are hard, especially movies like Marvel Superheroes.

The title's a bit misleading... He just hates the training that goes into the role. Maybe he can pull a Downey and just convince them to CG muscles onto him like they do the Iron Man suit.

phew, I thought this was about his not wanting the play captain america originally and now, after already playing him twice, realizing he hates the role. Glad its not that.

There is nothing truly negative about what Chris Evans said. I blame the sensationalist title and tone of the article. Don't make waves where there are none to be made. Shame on Babs for the negative spin. He said everything right and was nothing but professional.

His work ethic is there. I can't really think of another actor that can bring Steve Rogers to life the way Chris Evans did.
