interesting piece of robot fiction starring Captain America
Let me start by saying I love me some robot fiction, it's probably my favorite genre... and what we have here is a superbly drawn and interesting piece of robot fiction starring Captain America and the Human Torch.
James Asmus really deserves praise. It's tough taking the reins from a writer who has helmed a character for years now, in this case Ed Brubaker with his disasterous and unoriginal Captain America, but i think James Asmus does a great job of keeping the tone that worked for Brubaker and also injecting his own individuality that separates it from Brubaker's run. This issue, however, his writing takes a backseat. This issue is mostly the action of the story... we see Captain America fight an army of RoboCaps and Human Torch fight Adam II. The fights are all rendered beautiful by Francesco Francavilla who's art is really great and couldn't suit the story more. Despite the lack of many character moments this issue, you won't feel short-changed because the art makes up for the lack of dialogue
That's not to say there aren't character moments, we get a flashback to when the 2nd Bucky discovered the 2nd Captain America was dead and how the Human Torch tries to comfort him only to be faced with the harsh truth that he's a robot and can't truly know how "Bucky" is feeling.
Overall i definitely enjoyed this issue... we have all the recipes for a great book. Fantastic art, robots and a good writer who sadly isn't quite getting the pat on the back he deserves for this story
