Enemy, Chapter One
This was a really hard issue for me to read, get a handle on, and now try to review. What a weird set of emotions this one conveyed to me. It really revolves around the events of 9/11 and the aftermath. How we were as a community and a nation after those events. How people were not sure of the lines between who is the enemy is who isn't. Here's Steve Rogers, Captain America... really, the embodiment of all that is right and just about our nation, walking the streets and trying to make sense of it all himself. Even this many years after the event it brought many emotions to the forefront for me. I'm guessing that is exactly what it was meant to do... make us think about things.
Overall the issue was pretty good. I struggled with a one thing and it became huge for me. It's an issue with a 3.99 price tag on it and I finished it in a matter of ten minutes or so. I was disappointed in that. It wasn't that the story was great and I just ripped right through it... it was the fact that there isn't much there to read. There's lots of pictures, but really no "story". The story is told with the pictures, but it really left me feeling cheated. I wanted a story, I wanted something to sink my teeth into and I just didn't get the meat of the story if you will.
I'm lucky, I picked up a lot of this title for a great price, so I didn't have to pay retail. If I had, I would have felt ripped off. It's an interesting take on the country and even now will make you think.
