Synopsis
In the Pacific Ocean, Cable and the similarly time-displaced Bishop investigate an intrusion into the remains of Greymalkin, which houses a dangerous "time displacement core". Within what they had thought an impenetrable base, they find Sinsear, who is attempting to return to his own time. Despite his claims that he wishes no one any harm, Sinsear attacks. In the scuffle, Bishop misdirects one of Sinsear's attacks, but the blast inadvertently hits one of the core's containment walls and damages it.
While Bishop continues the battle with Sinsear, Cable attempts to shut the core down. He finds, however, that the program to do so has been overridden - he will need to shut the core down manually. Threatened with an ever-expanding collapse of the timestream, Cable determines that a temporal orb must be activated within the core. Since he is responsible for the presence of the core's presence, Cable intends to enter the core and activate the temporal orb at the cost of his own life. Sinsear, however, stuns Cable and makes the choice to sacrifice his own life to fix the timestream. He does so and all of time is saved.
As Cable and Bishop fly back home, Cable notes that his efforts in the present do not seem to be preventing his future from occurring.
Back at the Xavier Institute, Storm finds a troubled Cable and motivates him to keep giving hope a chance. He then asks Storm for any information about his half-sister, Rachel Summers.
