    Cable 24 Review

I am modifying a review I posted on another forum. I am posting this after Second Coming is completed but I will limit this review to events as of this issue. So no Spoilers.

As a big Cable fan I felt that this series was a little weak. Though I do feel that's because it was trying to be too many things at once. Cable has been hunted before by lots of different people but he was never hounded like how Bishop did. Bishop literally destroyed the world so there would be no where to hide except in the future North American wasteland, and based on what he knew of Cable he could predict where he would go. Cable is usually depicted as the man of action, the old soldier doing the dirty work. The series did show his resourcefulness in that he survived all the while caring for this little girl, but the focus was split between Cable's struggle to keep him and the girl alive, Bishops crusade to save the world from this girl and Hope's growth from infant to capable young woman or good soldier as Cable calls her.

I thought the last issue was good overall, with Cables inner commentary about his opinions and misconceptions about the X-Men from the legends he grew up with and later how his own experience with them changed them. The final victory over Bishop was good, leaving him trapped in some futuristic wasteland with no way to follow or even return. In the most touching part Hope calls Cable dad cementing their relationship not as commander and soldier but father and daughter.

The big problem with the series is there was no clear definition as to the scope of Hope's powers but 2 things for me stand out. First in New X-Men 46 when Mystique just touched the baby to Rogues head, it purged all the other powers and more importantly personalities that were trapped there killing Rogue in the process. The second was in X-Force 16 where Apocalypse says just by being in the child's presence he can feel her power, and she would make a suitable host for Apocalypse at some point. That means she has potential on a similar level to Cable/Stryfe/Nate, which could lend credence to Bishops view that she is dangerous.

Throughout the series there are comments (mostly from Bishop) that Cable is a tired old man, this could be foreshadowing Cables death, I guess that remains to be scene. Also assuming Hope is with the X-Men after the second coming story is over it would be interesting to see how she reacts to being in the same place without someone gunning for her all the time. I suppose she is about the same age as most of the other x-girls in that 16-17 range. I don't think she has ever has friends before except for that boy thousands of years in the future so it would be interesting to see her doing normal things like shopping or even having fun. Well there has been a lot of build up for her here's hoping they don't screw this up.

After time porting in to the distant future and then jumping to the not so distance past. Hope and Cable kept getting closer and closer to the present time.  Not far behind them is Bishop, who says that Hope is the one responsible for his catastrophic future.  The story starts in the early 1930s and the duo arrives in what seems is going to be a drive by. Gangsters and their drives-by, Ay dios mio. LOL. Well guns are shot, Hope blows up her second car, and Cable takes them  in another time jump....

I've stuck with Cable right through since before messiah complex, patiently waiting for something to happen. This issue wasn't it. The whole series has been pretty much a let down, 'Cable & Hope getting chased through time by Bishop" now that sounds good but in practice it wasn't. It ended up being very repetitive and not much happened. This issue though was a marked improvement, some good action and the end scenes where you see the fruits of the realtionship Cable & Hope have built was ...
