Founded in 1923, Bungeishunjū is not generally a publisher of manga but of political, literary and other magazines. One of their rare attempts at a manga magazine (Monthly Comic Bingo) only lasted three years in the nineties. However, because they published the original novel it adapts, Bungeishunjū is the publisher of one of the rare continuous manga series with over 100 volumes (Onihei Hankachō). Though their first edition of the series has been ongoing since 1994, beginning in 1999 and then again in 2007, Leed (the publisher of the author) has been releasing larger editions of the series that collect more content per issue (and thus have less than 100 issues) and all three versions continue to put out new content regularly (a rarity for any ongoing series).
