Not exactly a strong start to season 9.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 9 #1

How many of you wish that when you open up Buffy comics that the theme song would just start playing? I would love that! In my head I play it but it's just not the same as hearing that guitar play and the drummer going crazy and you get to see all of the awesome stuff that's happened over the series! SO mainly this first issue revolves around Buffy waking up from a night she really doesn't remember. That night being her house warming party! A party it was! It seems that Buffy drank a little too much and partied a little too hardy! But nonetheless we see the return of our beloved characters! This continues directly from season 8 (WHICH I DIDN'T READ BUT WILL SOMEDAY! i know your probably thinking then why is this guy reading season 9? WELL BECAUSE I CAN!). Buffy has just moved to San Francisco and has two new roommates! Spike warns Buffy that there's a new threat coming. We see two threats one being an outer worldly threat, and the other being this monster that's hunting Buffy to pay her student loans. DRUM ROLL. seriously.

    The GOOD!

What seems to be very good about this issue is that it's in direct continuity with season 8, which is a good thing because sometimes with comics like this they take the new volume in a different and confusing direction. What's also amazing is how true to character everyone is! I love that Joss Whedon does this comic series as well because if not then this would be a total flop! I would be WIGGING if it was not him! The humor in this issue is very good.

Art: The only art I liked was the cover art. Jo Chen's art is amazing! It's so cool how strikingly similar his art is to the actual actors that play these characters! I love how he drew San Francisco everything about it, is just great! The other covers I thought were also done well!

    The BAD!

This issue somewhat bored me. Like there wasn't much development towards the over all story in this issue. Like the housewarming party took up most of the issue. We really didn't get to see too much of the other characters in this issue. Like I wanted to see so much more of Xander, Willow, and Dawn in this issue. I'm glad we got to see a good dose of Spike in this (Spike...mmmmm) oh sorry I didn't mean to drool on you.

Art: I don't like Jeanty's art. I don't. I can tell that I'm going to have a problem with the art in the entire series then. It's just as time goes by these characters are getting older and he's not drawing them to look older. They're all still so short and look too young. His art bothers me also because all of the faces he draws look the same.

    The VERDICT!

If your a Buffy fan like me then you already picked this up out of the feeling of "well I have to get it, or else I won't be in the loop!". But if your not then I guess you can try it out just to see what it's like. So I give it a 3.5 OUT OF 5. PICK IT UP!

This is Fun and Responsible! 0

Before I start, I have to admit it: Despite my long-standing love for all things Buffyverse, I was not the biggest fan of Season 8. There were parts that I loved (Xander and Dawn, Faith and Giles) and parts that made no sense to me at all (oh, Angel, how you let me down...), but overall the season did not really feel like a season. The plot ran away from its roots and into the stratosphere to a point where many readers just couldn't follow any longer. That being said, this intro issue took the o...

Season Nine is finally here and it feels like Buffy! Freefall Part One's storytelling is a little different than we normally see. It starts with Buffy waking up and then throughout the day she remembers events from the party the night before. The issue has a lot of great interaction with the Scooby Gang (Everyone's here! Well except for Oz). We get to see Buffy having a good time with her friends, new and old. We are introduced to two new characters. Buffy's roommates: Anaheed and Tumble. Tumble...
