There's some crazy stuff going on in the Buffy comics. I know there are those that don't understand Buffy and company. I didn't quite get it until I actually started watching the show around the third season. Being cheesy was part of the charm along with Joss Whedon's brilliant writing. We've been wondering what the deal was with this mysterious Twilight character. The secret came out before the official reveal in this issue but Dark Horse promises we only know half the story.
The Good:
Brad Meltzer does a top notch job writing the characters and throwing their quirky remarks. As stated, even though I knew the identity of Twilight before, actually seeing it still had an impact. It really makes you wonder about every appearance of Twilight that we've had. Georges Jeanty remains consistent with his artwork. He captures the characters likeness and excels at conveying the expression of each on each panel. It's clear that we do not have all the answers. Everything is changing.
The Bad:
The identity of Twilight seems to be working but it is still hard to accept. While having a character like Twilight has been interesting, I always thought his costume was too superhero-ish. That has always felt out of place in the Buffy comics. It looks like we have big changes coming. It could go either way.
The Verdict:
There really wasn't a lot that I thought was bad here. Since we only know "half the story," I'm really interested to see where this is all going to go. If you've ever enjoyed the Buffy (or Angel) TV series, you probably already know how great this series is. If you've never watched the show, you either don't know what you're missing or would simply have no interest in this. I would actually give this a 4.5 out of 5. I really hope this all ends well but for now, it's an exciting trip.
