Late one night a British man shows up on the campus of Sunnydale High looking for Giles. Before he finds him he's killed by a demonic woman named 'Deidre' outside the library. Giles and Buffy are within, but they fail to hear the commotion as Buffy is aerobicizing to loud technopop.

Later, when Giles contact info is found on the man's corpse, the police summon him to identify the body. Giles realizes that it's an old friend from college. However, he doesn't reveal to the police, or to Buffy, that he and the man were once part of a cult that summoned a sleep demon called Eyegon. Now he believes the demon has come back to kill its former followers.
