How long ago was it, what year? Just curious? =)

Pre-new 52 or after?

In both series, the caracter started to talk to his scarab since de begining. The two could communicate by talking of by mental speach.

In the old one, the readers coudn't undestand the scarab before really late (near the end of the volume 4, after the event of the Reach and the fact that Jaime recognize the scarab name) since then the readers were able to read the scrab talking.

In the new 52, they passed rapidly this step, making the character shout the name of the scarab right after the fusion. So the reader could understand the scarab right away.

What is sad in all this new 52 thing, it's that they do everything so quickly that we don't have all the atmosphere, the emotionnal hardship, that the character had to go through to pass signifiquant moment of their lifes. Everything is juste trowned in the face of the reader and they can't take the time to understand the characters, appreciate them and care for them...

Pre 52.... Don't know what volume 4 is when was this?

Pre 52 = before 52

Before the new 52 was launch, their was an other serie for Blue beetle. It started around 2006. A volume is a regroupment of 6 to 8 issue(also called paperback). So, the volume 4 is the issues number 20 to 26. ^-^

Jaime Reyes has always been able to talk to the scarab.
